Hey guys I just recently tried Baxter's Celsius summer ale. I thought it was crisp and refreshing perfect beer for the summer. What do you folks think of it

I had it on tap at Feile in Wells, thought it was a good summer beer.

Grabbed three six packs when they first hit the shelves, and loved them!

    Haven't seen any since!

I picked up a 6-pack a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it. I was afraid the lemon flavor would be jacked up, thankfully it wasn't. I'll be sure to seek this one out every summer.

This beer is balanced, smooth, and delicious. I agree it's awesome and I think it will probably be my go to beer this summer, right up there with Allagash White.

Does anyone know if the recipe is one of Michael LaCharite's, or is this the first Baxter beer that was developed by someone else?

From the Baxter press release: "The distinctive recipe for Baxter’s Celsius Summer Ale is the brainchild of interim head brewer, Ben Low." The full release is available on Beer Pulse. I can also say that I heard Michael say he was not involved with this beer.

Drinking one now. Tastes like a more bitter version of Sam Summer.

Agreed. Was not a fan when I tried it two weeks ago. Very run of the milll. Definitely will be spending my summer beer funds on better beers then Celsius.

Apologize for the quasi-hijack, but what better beers are these in your opinion? I'll be hitting some stores in Portland in a couple weeks before heading north to camp. Curious what I might find in cans that is good; prefer local stuff.

If you're looking for a good summer beer in cans, I don't think you're going to do better than Celsius, and I like Baxter's other beers too. I have heard that Marshall Wharf cans will be out this summer, but I don't know when or where or what styles will be in the cans. Celsius is much much better than Sam's Summer IMHO, and FWIW I suspect chowdahead's opinion is based more on a personal dislike for Baxter Brewing than the quality of the beer itself (see this post to get a feel for why I think this).

Wow dude. Linking to posts of mine from weeks ago to interpret what motivates my preferences in beer? Either you are in love with me or seriously need to get a life (I suspect the latter). I don't like the way Baxter's wee owner conducts himself in business but that doesn't sway my thoughts on the beer. I think the beer is weak, overly bitter for the style and generally lacks flavor. At $9 a six pack it's not exactly super cheap beer and I would much rather spend that money on something with actual quality like Allagash White, Peeper, Zoe, Lunch or if I am looking for something in cans Red Racer, Cisco or anything from Sierra Nevada. If you like the beer then hooray for you! I hope you buy so much of it that Luke sends you all the slap koozies, soap, can tab earrings, etc that you can fit in your house but don't speculate on my tastes please.

This is the internet, dude, so request denied. When you post vicious and ad hominem stuff like this it weakens your credibility, and it's fair game for me to point it out. And while I have enjoyed a number of your posts, no, I'm not in love with you, sorry. :-)

Will you two love dudes relax and enjoy a 'Gansett Summer Ale - now that's a summer beer I think we can all get behind.

I also like the 'Gansett Summer Ale. Celsius is just ok in my opinion. I like the other Baxter beers, but this one just isn't doing it for me. I've had it twice and prefer Sierra Nevada Summer or even Sam Summer over it.
