Not really sure why but I've always passed on Stowaway IPA. I was out at the Midway in Jamaica Plain last night and they had Stowaway and Phantom Punch Winter Stout on tap. Both were very good, better than I expected by a wide margin. The can shaped pint glasses are kind of cool too, and not half bad to drink out of, similar to a mason jar.

The stout was the bigger surprise of the two, nice cocoa and coffee at 6.8% abv, it also falls right into my normal sweet spot for pretty much all my favorite beers. It seems like almost all stouts are 5% or 10-17%. I'd love to see more in this range. Definitely more of a regular drinker, kind of Founders Breakfast Stout Jr.

Can shaped pint glasses are my new favorite. I get mine from DC Brau. I want one from Baxter now because my childhood dog's name was Baxter.

I loved the Phantom Punch last year, I've been meaning to grab a sixer but haven't gotten around to it yet. They don't get as much love as they deserve, they make very tasty beers at a good price point.

They were early canners so they made great beach beers. Stowaway is pretty good. Haven't had a phantom punch yet this year, but will give it a whirl when I see one.

Phantom Punch is quite good. I love that Midway has some good beers. Not many music venues serve craft.

The 2 offerings you mention are the only 2 I have had the opp. to try.

    Solid no doubt.

    Cheers

Consistency is suspect, but some of the Baxter beer is decent. Stowaway can either be good (piney, malty) or horrible (poopy mercaptan, yeast massacre). The best thing I've had from them has been the Hayride, and that was just meh. Very average stuff overall.

I've tried most of their beers, and for my tastes I only find their amber to be worth purchasing again. That said, I haven't purchased it again...yet. Phantom Punch seemed ok but I haven't had a full serving of it yet. I most recently had Hayride and found it to be a complete mess of a beer.

Things are getting better. Great Scott is terrific. Midway isn't bad, precinct in Somerville is good.

That's true, but they aren't really a music venue. They are sister restaurants and share a kitchen so you might be able to talk a bartender into bringing you something from the other menu though.

Just got a six pack of Phantom Punch Stout is pretty good. Just picked up a six for $9.99 in Southern VT. Great to throw in your pocket whilst doing outdoor activities.
