Before starting I did search for Bay Area trip advice and found some good tips, just wanted to ask a few questions and get some advice.

Skip to the questions below if you want
Reason for trip: I won a sweet sweepstakes through the Yahoo Fantasy Football National Draft Day sweepstakes. I didn't even know I had entered but I get a trip for 2 to SF with hotel and airfare included. Also get to go to the 49ers game on Sunday with field passes before the game! I want to turn it into a beer trip though and hit a few breweries and bars in the area. I'm flying in the morning of Nov 1st and flying out evening of Nov 3rd. I was planning on just getting taxis/uber but I'm afraid that's going to really add up, may look into public transportation if I can get to some of the places I want to. I will be looking to do an IP trade probably and want to get a few bottles to take home.
    Planned Breweries to visit:
    Saturday:
    Cellar Maker
    Rare Barrel
    Maybe Drakes
    Maybe SARA
    Monday:
    Anchor

    Bars:
    City Beer
    Toronado
    Beer Revolution
    Ol Beercafe

    Questions:
    1. Anything on the list of Breweries/Bars not worth going to?
    2. Is it worth paying for a cab or renting a car for a day to go to SARA? I know their beer is top notch, but if I'm staying in SF I'm not sure if its worth the money/time to try and get down there.
    3. What am I missing on my list, any places that are must hits that I don't know about?
    4. Are there any special tappings or events that Saturday or Sunday night in the SF area?

Thanks for the time and advice!!!

Add Faction Brewing (located in Alameda) to Saturday. It's close to Rare Barrel, plus it's next door to St. George's Spirits, a really cool distillery. I'd say skip Drake's and just buy some of their beer at the grocery store. SARA is indeed a trek from SF, so a cab will cost you; try looking up ZipCar for renting a car by the hour.

For bars, look up Monk's Kettle, Mikkeller Bar, and Trappist Provisions as potential additions. Good luck!

As much as I'd recommend going to SARA, it's 80 miles south of you. Not sure it's worth skipping the others to go down there. Cellarmaker, Faction, and RB for sure. Drakes is a bit further out, but very good beer.

Also consider in the city 21st Amendment on Monday. They're right down by ATT park. Do you have reservations for Anchor? Last time I checked you can't just walk in. Maybe it's changed now.

If you figure in the amount of time spent renting the car, driving both ways (in traffic, because there will be traffic), and time spent at the pub, you're looking at about 5-6 hours devoted to that SARA trip.

My suggestion would be to stick to the stuff in and around the city. If you want to try SARA, try bring some Texas goodies to trade.

OL is great if not a little out of your way. I'd maybe do Trappist Provisions instead. I second skipping Drake's & hitting Faction instead. Look in to Anchor, you have to sign up in advance for tours. If you want some draft Russian River, hit Toronado, if not I'd say it's skippable. SARA is indeed the tough one here. It's a killer place all around but it's basically an all day adventure. For one, just like Russian River, you're not just going to stop in for a beer or two - it's a place where you hang out & leisurely enjoy yourself. And the traffic can be pretty slow in that area. I'd really advise against a cab! That will be very expensive.

A little gem in the city................Whole Foods in Potrero hill

The tap list at the beer bar, the separate lower area, is better than 90% of the tap lists in town. Plus they do flights of ANY 4 for $10. Plus they have a Nitro tap of a rotating beer. It's pretty awesome.

I'm not saying you shouldn't make the trip (definitely rent a car - a round trip cab ride down to Capitola will likely set you back at least a couple hundred bucks), but keep in mind that bottle selection availability is hit or miss (the last couple of times I was there, there were no bottles of anything available), so you'll likely be going down just to sample their beers at the tasting room, and/or to pick up a growler of something. Driving time alone will be a minimum of 2 hours each way, plus the time it takes you to get out to the rental car agency, fill out the paperwork and pick up the car, etc. So yeah... 01001111's quote of a 5 or 6 hour trip is right on the money, depending upon how long you hang out and drink at SARA. If you absolutely love their beer, then what the hell, go ahead and make the drive. However, I'm not sure you're going to have much time for anything else you have on your list if you make the drive down to SARA. There are some decent places you could visit around Aptos, Capitola and Santa Cruz, if you want to try to make the most of your trip down there, but all of them would pale in comparison to the places you can find in the bay area.

If it were me, I'd drop SARA from the list in order to spend more time in SF and the East Bay. Their beer is good, no doubt, but I'm not sure it's worth the time, expense and the sacrifice of other spots on your list, just so you can spend an afternoon drinking their beer at the tasting room.

Where are you staying? CellarMaker and City Beer will likely be walking distance from your hotel. Beer Rev (and Trappist) are doable through BART. Rare Barrel is about a mile walk from the nearest BART station, so not too bad. Toronado will likely be a short ride from wherever your hotel is, too. Agreed with others that Sante Adairius is going to be too much of a time/money commitment for such a short trip. You do not want to rent a car in SF. Driving anywhere near Market can be soul-crushing and there's nowhere to park near any of the good beer spots (except City and Cellar, though your car might get broken into in SOMA, mine has twice) plus, you'll be paying at least $40 a night to keep it at your hotel unless it's covered.

Edit: also don't sleep on Mikkeller Bar. It's pricey, but always has one of if not the best tap and bottle list combo in town.

Or you could go to SARA, bring a couple bottles with you to contribute to the share that happens almost daily, and taste more beer in one spot than you would by going to several different spots in SF.
    Speaking from personal experience.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions! Keep them coming if anyone else wants to chime in! I think I agree that dropping SARA is the easiest move. While @thequillen makes a very tempting point to get into a bottle share then, I'd rather get to experience multiple places as I've never been the Bay Area and would like to see the city some.
I had checked availability at Anchor but forgot to go reserve my spot today after my flights got confirmed. Thanks for the reminder @reefer_bob I was able to go book my reservation for Monday morning!
Sounds like its a no brainer to listen to the locals and drop Kane's and go to Faction.
Looks like a good plan would be to hit Faction when they open at noon, spend a few hours, then quick trip to Rare Barrel for a few hours. Then head back to SF for Cellarmaker until the evening, then hit a couple bars that night. Going to be a long day.

I am planing on bringing some Jester King beers and Crooked Stave Cellar Reserve beers to either trade or maybe get into a bottle share Sat/Sun night. If anyone has West Ashley or other SARA beers they want to trade just hit me up and I'm sure we can work something out.

Thanks again everyone, this post really encompasses the BA spirit for me, I always try to help people when they post similar things in the SW forum so I'm glad to get such great feedback from everyone!

If you can work it in the schedule, it's really nice to take the Ferry over from SF to Faction. You can catch the Ferry at the Ferry Building (duh) which is like a 2 minute walk from Embarcadero. It'll take you across the bay to Alemeda, where you're about a 15 minute walk from Faction.

From Faction to Rare Barrel I would recommend an Uber or Lyft. It'll probably be $15-20, but worth it.

I would opt for The Trappist rather that Trappist Provisions, but that's my bias. Trappist is also walking distance from Beer Rev. There is also a free shuttle bus on that corridor.

Good resource for getting to places is here: www.beerbybart.com

You may need to end up renting a car to get to the 49er game as the new stadium is 50 miles south of town, unless they are taking care of that for you.

    Have fun!

@rmdownward Yeah transportation to and back from the game is included! Super lucky to have won this. Thanks for the link to the beer by bart, that is going to make trip planning so much easier!

@rrryanc Awesome suggestion, I'll def try to make the ferry work either going over or coming back, or both! Good to know we can walk from there to Faction, and then an uber to RB sounds like a plan!

Mainly suggested Trappist Provisions over Trappist since, like OL, it's also a bottle shop. You can also get bottles to go from Trappist (at least I think you still can), but it's not laid out like a bottle shop. So if bottles to go isn't something you're looking for, Trappist is a great option.

Although I like Faction beers, the tap list was small and not overly exciting the one time I went to the brewery. I would not expect to spend more than 60-90 minutes there, but who knows the beers on tap may be great when you visit. If you like sours, you can easily spend plenty of time at Rare Barrel, which has some decent food options as well. I also prefer Trappist to Provisions, but both are excellent.

For SF, Mikkeller is a must, and Hopwater Distribution is not far away and has a great lineup of California beers. Toronado is also a must in my book, as is Zeitgeist, which you could hit before or after Anchor on Monday -- they open at 9am!

Since the Ales for ALS festival they had there, the tap list went from around 6 to about 20+ at Faction.

Thanks everyone for the advice again! Looks like loose itinerary is Faction 12-2 ish, Rare Barrel 2:30-5ish, probably Trappist and Beer Revolution, then Cellarmaker, then bars back in SF for tomorrow.

Quick question: Will I find any cascade of almanac farm to barrel stuff sitting on shelves?

There should be a fair amount of Cascade and Almanac bottles available, though you might only be able to find fall seasonal bottles.

Haven't been is a couple of weeks, but City Beer Store had Cascade and Almanac bottles. Ludwig's in San Anselmo (Marin County) currently has Cascade Sang Noir and Blackap Raspberry and many Almanacs, fwiw.
