Hi Everyone, Stout season is upon us and as per my usual dilemma, who has good BA stouts/Barleywine/Porters that you can get generally out side of the bruery/Goose island. CellarMaker does their Vastness of Space series but I don't recall them bottling it. Let me know!
Lagunitas releases their BA Coffee stout that gets distro, last year I found 6 packs at multiple stores in SOMA. Ballas Point's BA Victory at Sea is also a good option for something that get's a lot of distro. Drake's Dealership in oakland usually has several on tap, Fieldwork could be releasing BA Eliza or Viking's Lament soon ish (not too sure on timing)
The Bay Area, sadly, isn't really a treasure trove of BA stouts. BA Vastness is pretty good and I would make an effort to get it next time it's bottled. There's always FiftyFifty Eclipse and its variants which can be good to great. Alpha Acid makes some Bourbon Barrel Constrictor, but I can't comment on it as I've never had it. It's unfortunate that I have to seek beers made outside of our region, but that's the way it goes for now. The upside is Modern Times is opening up a location in Oakland sometime next year.
drakes makes good extremely underrated ba stouts and porters, check them out barrel constrictor is good! and relatively easy to get, released twice a year. brewery is across the street from my work
I always forget about the alpha acid guys! Ill have to circle up with them and see about getting the BA Constrictor!
I would add Morgan Territory (Tracy) Dark Reckoning which is Baltic Porter. Excellent beer! Otherwise, Lagunitas stouts is probably the only one that I buy regularly. I can't get to Cellarmaker other a couple of times a year.
I must have missed this alert because I don’t recall seeing it on social media. How tough is this to get these days?
No clue if they have any left. Doubt it. It was good. But, I have a few extra. I hit Cellarmaker on the reg, after work. Shot me a msg if you ever make it over there.
Just saw this post, I wanted to comment on alpha acid barrel constrictor, their barrel aged stouts. They are very good. Had the reg , the vanilla and birthday variants. They are in Belmont kinda hidden in some warehouses right off the freeway, the next exit after fieldwork in San Mateo. Went there for the anniversary party last month. Awesome underrated beers, the pineapple machete was delicious and definitely worth a stop if you happen to go by fieldwork. Don't let the small place fool you.
