I mentioned in the last thread that, because of the poor attendance on Sundays, things would need to be re-thought. At first there was plenty of momentum behind doing this monthly, but it has begun to peter out, at least on Sundays. So here's the deal:

    1) From now on unless I get 5 solid commitments the day before the tasting, besides myself, the tasting will be canceled. Please, if you're going to come, post in the thread.
    2) I'm open to modifying the time/date. The poll reflects that, but if there are other options let me know.
    3) Please only vote if you attend the tastings.

I think the options are pretty self-explanatory, but if you have questions post them here.

If you are looking for turnout move it to SF once a quarter on a Thursday or Friday night.

I think last month was an isolated incident for sure, I just miss remembered the time it was taking place and reread the thread 4 hours after it happened :/

5 post rule seems fair though.

I'd like to keep it in Oakland mostly, but quarterly in the city sounds good to me.

If you have a place to host a tasting in SF, feel free to start your own.

Even back when we started these, finding a spot in SF was always a challenge, let alone on Thursday or Friday.

First Thursdays at 6:00 is perfect (at least for me). Can have a normal work day and still have plenty of time for a tasting.

Just speaking for myself, but Sunday afternoon tastings effectively limit what you can do before (time) and after (time/beers drank, etc.) since some of us (well, at least me) work M-F and value those weekend days for being outside, etc.

Anyway, just my opinion. I'm fine with whatever though, as long as first Thursdays (which seem to be popular) remain as an option.

I think 2X/month is a bit much, but I'd be down for Thursdays only especially as the weather gets nicer since there's just more stuff to have to juggle around on the weekends.

Me too, I meant "every other month", I hope people generally got that from the "cancel Sundays" part.

I will usually be hit and miss on either day, but I'll vote Thursday only.

Seriously, if anyone can figure out where to host them, please start doing your own. There's clearly desire, but it'll be a real bitch to find space, is my bet.

For those in SF...just go to the Grape & Grain one. Adam is an AWESOME host!!! It's more like a private tasting since the place is closed when we are there, so less yelling and everyone is in on conversations since we can hear each other vs. cliques created out of necessity with it being more crowded at Beer Rev. I love meeting people, sharing beers, and just plain getting out of the house, so I will go to both....just saying for those that want the SF thing.
I'm also doing stuff at my place in Napa for North Bay and anyone else who's down....if you want to taste beer, there's someone in your area.

Thanks Stu for always putting these on. It's not always easy and you do deserve appreciation for the extra time you put in for us to enjoy these tastings. Thank you. :-)

Definitely down with keeping the "first Thursday" every other month in tact, those are on my family calendar and work great for me given work and family obligations. Sundays rarely work for me. SF location would be grand but don't know where that would be. I have to try a Grape and Grain tasting but that's a CalTrain away from SF (which would mean I need to then Muni to and from SoMa), something BART-able or ideally Muni-able would be ideal but beggars/choosers.

FWIW I did just recently bottle two new red wine meets beer sours, don't think they'll be ready for April 4th but June's first Thursday for sure.

Awesome release news. What's the bottle limit? Total bottle count? I'll stand in front of your place at 3:00 a.m to get my max allocation.

Okay, I guess I'll just keep it the same and be very clear about attendance minimums on Sundays.

Ha, got about 5 gallons/2 cases of the one which really tastes like red wine with a nice hint of sour (25 pounds of 2010 Barbera, sat on the skins for 10 months, really red, I think that the red wine acid and tannins may have inhibited the typical sour beer expressions from getting quite as tart as usual, but I really like this one), and about 6 gallons/2.4 cases of the one to which I added 1 gallon of amazing freshly pressed cabernet franc juice (color is lighter, wine elements much more subtle though present). The bigger issue with #2 is that it was expressly built around sour "dregs" I gathered from a super whale tasting of multiple sours and I'm afraid at least one of those sours had some acetic acid, so it is good and drinkable and quite sour but not ideal given the off notes.

Hold on Chad, me and my mules already bought out the whole two cases allocation. Now if you want from me, you have to pay a very hefty price  j/k

How about you make it back here. We set up a grand tasting and Gil can show off his sours?
