@kozaka where did you get that? Is it common knowledge that Shenkerla has 5L mini kegs? Never seen them before.

I am fortunate the importer is headquartered in CT and also provides outstanding customer service. Was not prior knowledge to me either; just happen to check the website of B. United and noticed the mini as a new item. I emailed the local rep and she was happy to send an order to my local store!

Mini kegs have been around for a while, but the Helles mini kegs are relatively new.

See them in the Chicago area too. Never picked one up because I imagine it would take a while to get thru it... being the only one around who would drink from it.

I wanted to try their rauchweisse at the brewery last weekend, but didn't manage to get to it. :slight_frown:

Came across a bottle of this today. Very unique! Pour is turbid, hate to say it's an unattractive brown but certainly not the prettiest beer in a glass. Aroma is stiff leather and light smoke. Taste is complex, the smokiness of the malt combined with a clove characteristic and touch of acidic fruit. A refreshing snap to the mouthful. Another delicious and intricate offering from Schlenkerla.

I received a text message photo the other day of some one-way kegs of Faust Hefeweizen being filled for the American market. Back when I got my 80 liters of "Haustrunk" per month, Hefeweizen made up a big part of it. Hands down my favorite Weizen... very possibly my favorite beer. If anybody finds it on tap, I'd love to see a picture of it! I hope the trip across the pond is fast and cold.

Found some well-kept six-packs of HB Helles and enjoying one before I prep dinner.

Has that great melanoidin malt character, in nose and flavor, I remember from Munich-brewed beers (and many well-brewed Bavarian beers), and that spicy, dryish finish I find in beers brewed with Weihenstephaner yeasts... though I wonder in HB uses that yeast -- may just be a Munich character.

Great rendition of the style, if not suffering from Pasteurization. I've had this fresh vom Faß at a few spots that import directly from Munich and it's always better... but this six-pack fills a void well.

Yep, that's how I ended up with my Maßkrug, one liter can/glass combo! (although my purchase was in Germany)

Drinking the Kräusen from Faust, 13.4% OG and 5.5% abv. The amount of suspended yeast/particles gives it a light orange shine when most of the bottle is poured in. The taste is rich, malty and bitter-sweet with a slight tangy taste. It's a bit too sweet for my taste, I need a stronger balancing bitterness to match the malt. Yet again though Faust delivers a distinct flavor profile instead of brewing the same basic beer and packaging it differently.

Not alot of news in this video but I thought it might provide some entertainment value at least so I'd thought I'd post it here.

Picked up some Maisel's Weiß -- not quite as red as N8's; more golden peach, but I have the 11.2 ounce bottles, so I used my Willi Becher -- less volume. Maybe tomorrow I'll fill my Weizen glass with 2 for better visual effect.

Color aside, a terrific Weizen. Great clove and yeast nose with spicy noble hops. Same rich characters in the flavor with a very creamy mouthfeel.

I don't drink Weizens that often, but I've always liked the good ones and this one will remain on the short list of what to look for.

So I just reviewed this one (see my beers). While I really enjoy a good Weizen now and again (Schneider has always been a favorite), I'm rarely looking for one to have as one of my "beers on hand." The Maisel's may change that. Not sure if it's just a freshness thing, or that the brewery is nailing this style, but man -- is this a great rendition.

As I mention in my review, there is a similarity to this beer and Schneider's Original, and that may be why I'm enjoying it so much. But if anyone is looking for an open-your-eyes Weizen, try the Maisel's Original. It really makes me want more from Maisel's.
