According to this, Ayinger Ofest will be available in 330ml 4-packs this year. Is this a new thing, or have people been able to get those in the past? Don't recall seeing them last year but not sure.

This format is certainly new for the US market as detailed in the press release:

Seattle WA — Ayinger Oktober Fest-Märzen, one of the most highly-respected märzens available in the world (and the top-rated Oktoberfest/Märzen of 2014 at ratebeer.com) is arriving now at a store, bar or restaurant near you. This year, 4-packs of 330 mL bottles will join 500 mL bottles and 30 liter kegs!”

Maybe the German folks can let us know if 333 mL bottles were available to them in the past.

    Cheers!

P.S. For the past few years I have consistently purchased a few 500 mL bottles of Ayinger Oktoberfest beer. If I see the 4-pack, and it is reasonably priced, I will buy that this year.

Yeah, Ayinger and Weihenstephan are, generally speaking, my go-to Oktoberfests, so a 4-pack would be pretty sweet indeed.

Every year both Ayinger and Weihenstephan are on my 'list' for Oktoberfest beers.

The beer I buy the most of is Sly Fox Oktoberfest beer; that beer is excellent IMO.

    Cheers!

.......I doubt the Ayinger Oktoberfest Märzen is aviable in germany AT ALL, yet alone in puny 330ml bottles.....
Is the Weihenstephaner Festbier named Oktoberfestbier in the US?
In germany, Oktoberfestbier or Wiesnbier is a protected name, and is only allowed to be used by the breweries who deliever the Oktoberfest- HB,Augustiner,Paulaner,Löwenbräu, Hacker Pschorr, Spaten....
So i bet you won't see beers by Ayinger or Weihenstephaner labelled as "Oktoberfest Märzen" on german store shelves!

Fascinating. I guess this is the same beer, as we Krauts get it...

Yeah, but you get nice BIG bottles.

We get the puny 330 mL bottles.

    Cheers!

Those aren't big, they are only A HALBE  I need two of them to fill my Krug! (I wonder what would be the bavarian term for those silly puny bottles- my suggestion would be drittle:wink:)

“I wonder what would be the Bavarian term for those silly puny bottles”

You would need to invent a word for it since I sure that there is no term for this in the Bavarian dialect; these puny bottles do not exist there.

Let me tell you a story. Many years ago I went to Disney World/Epcot (Orlando, Florida) with some buddies. While in Epcot we visited Germany and drank some beers. It was a long day and at the end of the night one of my buddies wanted one last beer before we left. My friend went up and ordered a half-liter of beer. The young German dude who took the order replied: Half liter!?! That’s a woman’s drink!

My buddy was pissed off all night long after hearing that remark.

    Cheers!

    Lol, funny story.
And you'll laugh, but in franconia, 0,33l bottles do exist- officially, they are called "Schlüggla", while in the local dialect, I've heard them being called " a maulfull" (a mouthfull)..They mostly come in styilish, hand_grenade like bottles.See examples below:

This is such bizarre territory for me -- that a half liter of beer is considered a woman's pour?? -- while in England basically every bar in the country readily pours half pints. I just don't get it. I hesitate to say the following, because there's no way for it not to come off as cultural critique, but the German insistence of drinking high volumes of (not even sessionable) beer comes off rather misogynistic/testosterone-laden.

There is a kind of sexist vibe in some parts of german beer cultures, which i highly despise.
    BUT
(aigan, in franconia) all pubs and brewpubs serve someting called a schnitt- half beer, half foam, in a 0.5l glass, so possibly the equivalent of a half pint(and in all parts of germany outside bavaria/franconia, serving sizes are usually way below 0.5l-think of cologne:wink:)
Otherwhise, my experience of traditional pubs in britian is way different from those in franconia-the latter ones being way more tame and family friendly...

Haha, there's certainly some colorful language often overheard at a pub:slight_smile:

And, again, I don't at all mean to generalize about all of German drinking culture, particularly as someone who's never even been there! Great point, too, about places like Cologne and other areas, which have different traditions, both in style, serving size, etc. By all means, I look forward to some day traveling to Germany to experience all of this first hand. I just hope they won't laugh me out of the bar when I decide it's time to move to schnitts:wink:

The serving size of a 0.2 liter Stange beer glass in Koln may be small but it is my understanding that because of the efficiency of the servers (Köbes) many of those glasses are consumed over the course of a typical drinking session.

    Cheers!

I'd still say there is a difference in how much you drink. When I drink 10 Kölsch in a drinking session in my Heimat(near cologne), it is considered quite a lot. But it is still only 2 litres. When I have the equivalent mass in a franconian Bierkeller (4 Seidla), it is not considered so much by the natives:wink:
Never happened to me, and since I cycled through a lot of Bierkeller, I had a lot of Schnitts:wink:

When I visited Bamberg I was chatting with some local English speaking German gals. Speaking of being at the point where you could no longer drink half-liters and had to resort to Schnitts, they called this being "Schnitt-faced".

I like the expression and have adopted it state-side.

So, saw that HB's Oktoberfest popped up on my local shop's online inventory and knew I had to run over to snag some. This was one of my better choices lately. Review below. Needless to say, I'll be back for more.

I've had it at the tent in Munich. Out of the Festbiers I've had over there (Paulaner, Hofbrau, Augustiner) Hofbrau was my favorite. Truly a delicious version when fresh. On tap it's even better if you can find it, tastes exactly as I remember (for what it's worth).
