Can't imagine a 4-hour step-infusion mash. They must still decoct

Well the guide said 3 to 5 hours, then talked more about 4 hour mashes. Looking at decoction profiles, you can do a single in 3.

The best I can say is - I don't know for sure.

I looked at some pictures, one was of a poster explaining that this kettle was used for wheat beers and Dunkels. Part of the mash is drawn off and cooked. That sounds like a decoction to me.

The best thing to say is that they infuse for some beers and decoct for others.

Great contrary quotes on the benefits of decoction mashing in that article. I have to say that the Ayinger rep's comments sound very much like those I heard from Spaten a few years back... and still disagree with.

just to explain further, these came from a new bier source for me, i ordered a few boxes from mein biershop, the price worked out pretty reasonable, even with shipping costs and the shit pound at the moment. got quite a few bayern goodies to get through over christmas, most ive never seen before but i did get a few from kneitinger including the bock which im looking forward to cos i seem to remember them getting some love on here.

    this one was decent

You can also order Kneitinger direct from their website, Kneitinger.de. Their Dunkel and their Pils are pretty terrific.

Their website says they deliver to "europäische Auslands"...I'm not sure if they mean just continental Europe or if the UK counts, too. Of course they specifically say to e-mail them about Ausland shipping charges so it's a bummer they didn't reply. Nevertheless, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the beers!

Kneitinger Bock is one of the best beers I've had in Germany. Their Dunkel is right up there too!

just going through a few more from my box shipped over from Bayern, not a bad one amongst them so far. stand out beers this time were the kneitinger pils and dunkel, the dunkel was very dark and a little bit chocolatey to my taste, almost schwarzbier like, very nice. I shall carry on working my way through them in the interests of research. merry christmas

There's a decent shot I'll be heading back to Bavaria at some point in the summer of 2017. More than likely just Munich and Bamberg, though.

This will be my first visit in roughly 4 years. Crew Republic is open in Munich now, right? Erlkoenig opened Bamberg. I still need to hit up Geisinger, too. I know opinions are mixed on all 3, and I'm okay with that. Anything else new I should be aware of? As long as it's within reach of the S-bahn, it's fair game. Bamberg is so laden with places to visit, I don't think I need additional options there!

Never been to Bayreuth, but I have had a tasty weissbier from Maisel. How far out of the way is it and what else should I target in that area?

I believe their beers are readily available in Bamberg.
