I bought a couple bottles to try.

I wish the beer inside the bottle lived up to the label art on the outside. :slight_frown:

Having a Riegele Kellerbier right now. Very nice. Getränke Fein had these non-crafty beers alongside of Riegele's crafty options, so I settled on the cheaper option this time (€0,85 per 500 ml bottle). Hoppy aroma and a bit of a toasted bread thing going on, too. Would buy again. 3.75/5.00

    Is Bind Bier worth trying?

I bought the "Georg Schneiders Weissbier-Probe"-box last week. As usual, I found it in that Getränkemarkt in Mainz. At € 11 it wasn't exactly cheap, but alright for 7 beers, some coasters, a sheet of paper that gives an overlook of the Schneider Weisse biers and tells you how to taste and rate them, and above all, a Schneider-Weisse-branded-"Degustationsglas". Basically, there's only one beer in that box that I haven't had before and I tried it today. It marks the 750th beer in my personal beer tasting file that I've been keeping for a few years now.

Schneider Weisse TAP 4 Mein Grünes. Unfortunately, this is very hard to get. Many, many Getränkemärkte throughout the country carry Schneider's offerings, but usually it's only TAP 7 Unser Original and TAP 3 Mein Alkoholfreies. Speaking of the Alkoholfreies: my wife drinks alcohol-free Hefeweizen. A few years ago, she began with alkoholfreies Bier, mainly Beck's Blue. Then I told her, if she drinks alcohol-free beer, she should at least settle for quality breweries and she followed my advice. Now she's down to only two alcohol-free beers that she accepts: TAP 3 and Weihenstephaner Alkoholfrei.

Okay, I was getting carried off. Since I've not had the TAP 4 before, I didn't know much about it. I expected a kind of "Leichte Weisse", meaning a Weizen with reduced alcohol content. In fact, it's a 6,2 %-hop bomb. At least for a Hefeweizen. It used to be Schneider's Oktoberfest-Weizen in the first half of the last century. It's got a beautiful light amber color (they call it "Messing"=> brass) and a smell I can hardly explain, due to the slight cold I still have. It's got all the qualities of a good Weißbier: smoothness, maltiness, a little sweetness, fruitiness including the typical bananas-and-cloves, etc. On their website, they write about a "leichte Hopfennote". I think, for a Weißbier, this is really hoppy. I don't know the percentage used between Tradition and Cascade -I'd guess Cascade only makes a little contribution-, but I can't think of a second regular Weißbier that has a bittering hops quality like this. Really extraordinary and really good! I often thought, why aren't there any more Weißbiere that try out some hops, and this is it! I know they also have TAP 5 Meine Hopfenweisse. But that's a Weizenbock at 8%+. So all in all, I was very satisfied with this beer today and I wish it were available more widely. A hoppy Weizen, cheers!

If you're talking about Binding, it's a local FFM Macro and not great IMO. Otherwise I'm not sure what Bind Bier is.

Mein Grünes is the weissbier I've enjoyed the most out of the one's I've tried so far, whilst not really being a fan of the style as such. The bitterness and hop flavors gives it a refreshing quality that I find is lacking in more traditional weissbiers, even as many other people consider the style to be the epitome of refreshment (that spot belongs to pilsner in my book).

I like your glass better than mine! (But does that say 2012??? I hope that has nothing to do with the dates on the bier paket?)

Tap 4 was also the last of Schneider's beers that I happened to try (not including the Tap 3). There used to be some Tap 1 around Heidelberg, but I don't see it anymore unless I travel over to Mannheim. If you have the chance, see if you can find your wife some of Faust's Alkoholfreies Hefe-Weizen. I'll say you liked the Tap 4 a little bit more than I did, not that I minded it, I just like their Tap 1 and Tap 7 more.

The glass was not part of the box, I bought it somewhere else a few months ago. They bring out glasses each year with "Ereignisse des Jahres". Earthquakes, voting results, royal weddings, new Schneider beers, etc. I used to have the 2011-edition before, but my son broke that... The one from the box is probably the same fancy-pants-glass as yours, but I prefer pouring a 0,5l-bottle in one pour rather than in two or three.
Oh, and I forgot about the Faust Alkoholfrei. She also accepts that. But only the Weizen. The Getränkemarkt in Mainz has the Alkoholfreies Pils in cases, but she didn't like that. When I brought her the Alkoholfreies Weizen (which they have in six-packs), she liked it a lot.

The color is quite inviting, certainly not Bitburger or Warsteiner -- guessing it tastes better than those?

It's the Bud or Coors of Germany. Drink it at your your risk. They are the one's who began the Radeburger Gruppe.

Both the Edelstoff and the basic Helles from Augustiner are magical. I'm constantly amazed at the simple perfection/perfect simplicity (to steal a phrase from Ron P.) of those beers. If you make it to Munich, you have to try a liter (or 2...or 3) from the wooden keg. Even better.... Prost!

That's a good one! Easy to take for granted as it is widely available. I like to buy a few every once in a while just to remind myself that sometimes I have it good.

Interesting beer. Pours an orange-apricot, with a wonderfully fluffy, pillowy head. The flavor is excellent. Slightly malty, with some mango and floral notes, as well as just a bit of pine lingering in the background. Not overly complex, but also not boring. Mouthfeel is decently creamy and stiff. All in all, this is a very good beer. I'm not sure I would call this an IPA, it's not really aggressive enough from a hop standpoint. They don't necessarily dominate, and there is little overt bitterness. This is more like a fruit intensive amber. I'm actually quite impressed with this, and would be happy to have it again.

The only drawback, as @mjtierney2 mentioned in reference to the Robustos 6, is that it's €4.50 for 0.66L, which is rather steep in comparison to a "normal" German beer. Having said that, as far as an IPA style, the price matches the other German versions (and the American imports) I've found, which normally run €2ish per 0.33L. And in comparison to some of the prices I paid for craft beer on my recent trip to Texas, this is actually decently cheap. Then again, I think I paid €1.20 per 0.50L for Ladenburger Weizenbock the same day, which is a pretty damning comparison... So, the end result is that I might seek this out when I need a hop-fix, but it's not likely to become a regular for me.

A bayernbier, bestowed and drunk, from the Kommunbrauhaus.
Beer lovers know the term Kommunbrauhaus when it comes to Zoigl, the famous beer from the Oberpfalz. There are five small towns (Windischeschenbach, Neuhaus, Mitterteich, Eslarn and Falkenberg) that are well known for their community breweries.
Less known is the fact, that there are Kommunbrauhauses in Franconia also, maybe because their beer does not have the famous label “Zoigl”. The best known is in Seßlach, a small town west of Coburg. It dates back 1335. There is also one in the village of Rossach (from 1711); it is just five miles east of Seßlach.
The last years saw a revival of the KBHs. Old ones that were no longer operative have been restored and refurbished. Two of them are at the foot of the Haßberge Mountains, which separate Upper and Lower Franconia. The KBH in Junkersdorf was reopened in 1998, and ten years later the KBH in Unfinden re-opened after the shutdown fifty years ago. Unfinden became a big success; the demand for the beer was so high that is usually was sold out on the first day. For the first brew in 2014 the brewers decided to make a little more beer and fill some. I am happy to open one of these bottles in Berlin today. Prost.
