    Hey guys,

For Christmas I went all grain and got this bad boy for a new boiling kettle -http://www.bayouclassiccooking.com/44stststwspn.html. I wanted to add these two attachments (filter)http://www.bayouclassiccooking.com/10spscfi.html and 1/2" attachment with barb http://www.amazon.com/Midwest-Homeb...d_sim_k_6?ie=UTF8&refRID=19P81GRMXRTZ89NZDD4T so I can just use a hose to filter out my wort instead of pouring entire wort through a funnel and into the carboy. Anyone else do this, is it that simple or am I overthinking the process?

    Thanks!

It wil work. But if you don't have a hop spider or use bags to hold your pellet hops you will clog that in no time and be pouring it out the old way halfway through.

What about just attaching a hose to that threaded barb and being careful towards the end to not include the trub at the bottom?

Probably his best bet, or getting some fittings and making a side pick up. Whirlpool it well and then get what he can.

What about a false bottom? I'm out of my realm here because I don't even have a spiggot on my brew kettle.

The screen will work great with whole hops, but as FATCITY said you will need to contain pellet hops somehow.

If you were using a bucket or big mouth bubbler, draining the wort with no screen into a paint strainer bag inside of the fermenter would be a good option, but not suitable for a glass carboy. I also know at least one brewer who uses a fine mesh strainer inside of a large funnel into a glass carboy with success, which could be an option for you.

I've tried straining through a funnel into a carboy numerous times. Aeration becomes a problem after about 3 gal. I couldn't pack any more through the funnel without making a huge mess.

Are you using a built-in strainer in the funnel or stacking something like this with the funnel:

I try to do the same, when I have high amounts of hops in a brew and a paint straining bag handy.
