Ive made several trades with black maple so here is some insight of what it could land

    3:1 for a ng peach
3:3 for sip of sunshine, Arthur and nightmare on brett
5:2 for lou pepe kriek and st gill. (went $4$)
    1:1 for hf daybreak
    2:2 for 2 event horizon (12' and 13')

So I wouldn't say it is near dbh levels but you can get some very good beers and reasonable trades on this. FYI I did try to go for assassin and some higher end cantillon but got crickets. Hope this helps.

Admitting you had at least 14 bottles to trade makes me feel it wasn't that hard to acquire

Definitely not hard to acquire for those who live nearby. 6 bottle per day limit, and it's been available for at least a week I think. I just don't think there are that many people nearby.

I'm about 90 minutes away and I made the trip last weekend. I could see myself making another trip next week to get 6 more bottles if they're still available. It's a great beer. Some of the trade requests have been pretty outlandish, but Enoch's and Tdavis's trades seem pretty reasonable to me. FWIW, I just traded a bottle 1:1 for Supplication (in person).

I'd love to think it would trade 2:1 for a 4 pack of BCBCS/BCBBW or Prop when they come out this fall, but that may be wishful thinking.

I got lucky and one of the local shops didnt put a limit on it so I bought 5 and went back a few days latwr and bought 5 more. The other places I got it were 2 bottle limits. I live two hours from the brewery and its gone around here now

As stated before, there is nothing around Athens. You don't even drive remotely close to there on your way to somewhere else of importance. So to go to Athens, you make that your sole purpose of a trip. My area (Dayton) only received one or two cases. So, I made the 2 hour drive down yesterday. There is 0% chance I would have made the drive if I was not an OU alum. However, Brad did give me an impromptu tour of the brewery. Super nice guy.

So I would say 1:1 with Rare seems appropriate!

Athens, OH is a hick and college town. Most people around there are drinking their bud light or PBR. The entire "city" only exists because OU is there. There are always locals (mostly college students) drinking BMC at Jackie O's. The snob in me wants to scream, but to each his own. I'm in Northeast Ohio right now, but I would love to live in Columbus again for reasons other than beer. Columbus is a ruthless city for craft beer.

I don't know if I would even count this as a distributed beer to some degree. There are a ton of places that should have received it and didn't due to the low bottle count in circulation. I'm glad I mentioned it was available at the brewery still because that seemed like a shocker for every one. Don't let a few delusional Ohioians put a bad taste in your mouth. Most of us in Ohio, don't want to become the next Florida. :stuck_out_tongue:

I think Atrial for Black Maple is a really fair trade for example.

Dollar for dollar, and good beer for good beer, I would put this up against anything in its niche. I don't care about rarity, that means little to me, but I realize some people use beer for paperweights, conversation starters and other nonsense. If you want a great beer, trade for Black Maple; if you want to look at it in your closet and feel proud that it is limited, go get some Hill Farmstead. In any case, most Ohio traders are very generous and easy to deal with.

Maybe it's "appropriate" as a verb meaning "take (something) for one's own use, typically without the owner's permission." ;-)

"I had to drive 4 hours" is the rationale? So, by that logic, the fact that I have to drive 8 hours round trip from Seattle to Tillamook for De Garde automatically makes my De Garde 2 x as valuable. Tillamook is equally as remote (e.g. 1:15 from Columbus, OH to Athens versus 1:36 from Portland, OR to Tillamook ... comparison of closest metropolitan areas via Google Maps). But, wait, De Garde beers don't get distributed at ALL so they're probably more like 3 x as valuable.

FT: De Garde Blu Bu ISO: 3 x Rare

That's fair, right? Funny enough first time I tried to trade for Jackie O stuff I had folks pull this arguement on me ... and I was offering them De Garde! So I pushed back saying "but De Garde is equally as remote, if not more so, and the bottle counts were lower." And they sputtered, having lost footing ... "but, but mine still more valuable!!"

I'm sorry, but drive time factors only a touch insofar as the beer is a bit more difficult to acquire. It hit distro too, which undermines that a bit. 6 per person per day makes me think there was a decent amount as well, but who knows - I'd be curious actual bottle count. From what I, and most people outside of Ohio, can tell it wasn't that hard to acquire a copious number of these. Then factor in it was cheaper than Rare and it's, thus far, the flavor of the moment whereas Rare has stood the test of time as one of THE great imperial stouts and I don't see this happening except among friends doing each other a favor or some such scenario. Think about it from a perspective of opportunity cost: if I have Rare do I not have access to other less valuable beers that can pull a Jackie O?

I can't speak for everyone but the only reason I mentioned distance was because people talking about how it's still available at the brewery not to increase the trade value.

And I assume the rare was tongue in cheek. But again I can't speak for him.

If it's tongue in cheek, I fell for it!

Anyway, I should also mention that I ended up trading for a bunch of Jackie O's with someone that was totally reasonable, so I didn't mean for my tirade to besmirch the reputation of Ohio traders!

Aren't there still De Garde bottles at the brewery from their latest release ?

Let me preface this by saying that I think brewery remoteness shouldn't be a factor for trade value but def has an impact on how quickly beers sell out somewhere. Main reason people aren't making the drive down is because it's for one particular beer. At Jackie Os bottle events they typically release 3 or so different beers and those sell out at the release. I think people are less willing to make the drive for one beer just like I'm guessing you'd be less willing to make the drive to De Garde if they were releasing one beer rather than 4-5 at a time.

Glad you were able to land some Jackie Os bottles...I think with every beer release/brewery you find people who are reasonable and people who are unreasonable with their requests. Enjoy your beers!

Not any blu Bu though, dammit - that was gone in 45 min!! Though, to be honest, I think the dry hopped gose, hose, is better - people freak for the fruit but the hop Bu and hopped gose are where its at. Don't sleep on it!

The drive time just speaks to the availability. It had very limited distro, but you can get more if you are willing. The 1:1 with Rare was a joke. People should not be trading their first born for it. Some people asking way too much. I traded some for Arthur and Supplication.

Glad to see my sarcasm still works. And if you are looking for some, I'd be more than willing to make a very reasonable trade.

I traded 3 Black Maples 1 each to different folks and also BBA Dark apparition. we did $4$ on every trade and I was very happy scoring Dinner, Heady, Lawson's etc. Black Maple is $12.83/bottle after tax and still available at the brewery. Black Maple was also very lightly distributed to different retailers in Ohio. Honestly, I felt worse trading my BBA Dark Apparition knowing that the brewery is a 5 hour round trip for me. I may see a black maple in the store if I get lucky. It is very good beer, and I think $4$ is the way to go. With that being said, I am tempted to go back to the brewery to get more just to get my hands on some more delicious IPA's that we don't see here in Ohio. And the other best part of trading Black Maple was the fun extras I was able to send and receive along with the trade.

Well, I've tried to get 2 BB Maple and 2 BB App with various versions of Atrial and Nocturn and Tart of Darkness plus X. You guys think it's 1:1 (Atrial / Nocturn to Maple / App)?

Yes, most definitely IMO. You'll be paying over $4$ by going 1:1 but it would be close enough for me. Perhaps if you traded for 3 then your trading partner could even it out a bit with another maple or solid locals since that would be a $12 difference.
