I heard somewhere that this year's BBA:SN is infected. Anyone heard anything along those lines? I'm not really sure what that entails or means for the flavor of the beer but I had one just after hearing that and feel like I could detect an "off" flavor. But I fear that's just in my head after hearing that rumor. Straighten me out! Anyway, I'm having that, BA Doris and this year's KBS tonight. Should be fun. Just don't want to let an unfounded rumor mess my head up. Thanks!
The only way to find out is to have one lab tested or let one sit for a while and see if it sours the whole beer. Some people over-exaggerate an "unexpected" flavor and cry wolf about an infection. Just ignore it. Many BA beers have very slight tang/sweet flavors from the barrels and aging, and that's just the nature of it. Certain flavors are masked depending on how cold the beer is. In the end, as long as it's not a sour undrinkable mess, the beer is perfectly fine.
Heard somewhere? Couldn't have carried much merit if you can't remember details. I've had it several times this year. I never had it before and thought it ranked up near the best of them. Just one mans unbiased opinion.
Funny you mention that, I had one last weekend and wasn't impressed at all. It had a strange sweet flavor to it.
The new ones I've had were not infected. I've not heard any rumors about infected either. TD brewed some one-off barrel aged siberian night's (one was a Woodford Reserve barrel IIRC) for a ticketed event in CLE and those tasted a little off to me. I don't think they were infected tho.
