BBA Expedition

It was the same limit as last year, 2 4packs per person, the abv went from 13 to 12.8 in this batch and I give the strong nod to 17 in the side by side I did last night. My neighbor gave the nod to the 16 at the start but changed his mind by the end of his pours. the 16 was more blended but the flavors were just so much more pronounced in this new batch, a lot more barrel, oak, vanilla and bourbon present in the 17.

 

I also give BA Expo the go ahead over BAE

PS....the beer is amazing this year! For me it's a ton better than last year because it's fudgy goodness. If you're a fan of fresh hoppy, bitter Expo then this year's BA Expo may not be for you.
I did a side by side w/'16 & I like '16 better now than I did last year but it was not comparable to '17 for me

 

did a side by side as well last night. 17 is a clear winner. 16 is no slouch but this blend just hit perfect.

 

Same. I was very impressed by this years. The dark, dark mocha head was exciting right off the bat. I thought it was very well balanced, great vanilla on the back end and a good charred oak taste. But that's all the technical stuff. All in all it is 100% worth the price and the hype.

 

That's just desperate and pathetic IMO... Have some self respect jeez.

 

I was there just before 4pm. Saw one guy obviously changing his outfit (putting on a bright yellow t-shirt and ballcap) in the parking lot to go get a 2nd allotment. I warned the girl at the door to keep an eye out for him, but he must have gone through the other door because he was carrying out two more 4-packs later on. As I was in line to pay, I overheard one of the guys behind the counter rattle off a half dozen or so names/descriptions to somebody just coming on shift as "do not sell". Also saw a guy get rejected at checkout because he tried to double-dip but gave them the same credit card for both. Finally, two people were lurking on the sidewalk trying to get people to trade as soon as exited the store. All of this within 15 minutes.

 

glad they are making an effort to curb the greed. I know we always jokingly resort to blaming this on fibs, but from what I saw last year, this is the work of mostly east side people.

Well damn, I think I drank a beer or two since then so memory is fading.

I haven't done a 16/17 comparison yet (will soon), but I did have a 17 along side a 16B2 Black Note last night. I'm not a huge hop head, so prefer the hops in Expo to fade a bit and figure BA Expo will be better for me with some age as well. Given that, I figured I'd prefer the BN being smoothed out some with the DCS mixed in. Not true....preferred the BA expo. Has some heat but I like that!

The hops and heat really both mellowed for me when it came to room temp. At that point everything blended together perfectly.

 

Agreed, my wife and I shared one last night and both enjoyed it a lot more as it came up to room temp. Also agree that '17>'16, at least from what I recall when I had one a week ago. Bit more barrel on the '17, which I prefer.

 

Did you hear what the were trying to trade? Guessing KBS or something along those lines...

 

I don't mind (as much) people trying to get 2nd allotments if they we're going to drink it themselves. I suspect these people doing this (especially the 16 4-packs guy) are trading and/or reselling. -And that is what is really shitty to me about double dipping. At that point you are not only preventing some people from acquiring it, but you are also profiteering. Gross.

BA Expo was on tap at a place by me for a good two months earlier this year. I drank the crap out of it but always wished that it weren't so damn hoppy.

Hell even regular expo was off on Monday. Was on tap Sunday though....
