Okay, I just spoke with Julio's and here's the low down:

They are getting 20 cases of each coffee and vanilla. There are 18 to the case, so that's 360 bottles of each.

As of now, they are still not imposing any limits. However, they said that if there is higher than expected demand, they will probably impose a limit that day so that everyone can get some. The guy was super nice and seemed to totally understand that some of us just want to grab a couple bottles of a good beer.

If you're going to buy a case of each (or both), fine. But that's a lot of beer for you that others could enjoy. Do you really need 18 (or 36) bottles of this stuff? No. (Yeah, yeah, beer is a luxury commodity so none of us need any of it.) But come on, beer an advocate. Don't hoard. This stuff isn't even trade ammo.

All I'll say is, since there is no limit, I can see why people would buy full cases. If he wants to buy all 40 cases then all the power to him, I just think it's greedy. I was planning on going today (but I'm not anymore) because it was the only day I'll be able to get to that area. Limit or no limit, I would have and was planning to only buy 2 bottles of each so that others would be able to enjoy this brew.

So all in all, whoever bought a ridiculous amount of this, I hope you enjoy it because I know that I won't be able to. Just make sure you don't rub it in next time like a douche.

Lastly, can't wait for the Smoked Maple Lager.

did you get any sense when they'll start selling them? 1pm? I'm just going to assume there'll be a line based on this thread...

I have a hard time believing they would start selling them before the 1-3pm time span that the guys from JA will be there doing the tatsing.

The amount of butthurt and sense of entitlement in the craft community never ceases to amaze me. :grimacing:

I would hope so. Then 4 dudes show up at opening and clean them out.

...and the amount of greed and lack of sense of community amongst the craft beer crowd never ceases to amaze others. I got the four bottles I wanted, before the frenzy started. I'm neither butthurt nor do I feel entitled. Picking out flaws and defects in a subgroup to which you belong to is not a bad thing. Now if you'll excuse me I'm off to buy the majority of tickets to a concert so I can sell them for triple face value.

Sorry you couldn't make either of the "release" days. But this is essentially why trading exists: someone else was able to get a beer you'd like to drink that you weren't able to. In this way you're essentially the same as someone from California. Try messaging some of the guys that said they bought a lot ITT, I'm sure it wouldn't take much to set up an in-person swap.

Yup, apparently this is the 1st time BAs have ever bought a large amount of a limited release beer

I apologize for my comment - there's no limits, and you can do what you want - but I'm not sure how you construe it as not having interest supporting local business. That's pretty much my primary ethic when it comes to what I buy, which is one of the reasons I love Jack's Abby so much.

All I really want is to enjoy their beer, and then for as many other people as possible to be able to do the same thing.

a small Michigan brewery must have had the same problems about a decade ago before they distributed beyond MI, before having release parties and before chipping MA of their case allotment this year =D

    Or at least 80%.

Anyone do a side-by-side with a regular BA Framinghammer? A few friends and I did the variants, but didn't include the regular.

It's not the first time, nor will it be the last. But let's just sit by and say nothing while it happens. That works every time.

I haven't but do want to. I have a couple regular bottles left, so it's in the cards.

Have not yet but will be sometime soon. Most interested in directly comparing vanilla + regular BA. Coffee is pretty different, obviously.

The part I struggle with is what is greedy here, and who gets to determine that? I don't disagree with the notion that the guy walking out with a case of each must realize that his purchase likely prevented 3-4 other people from grabbing some later. It's possible that his own experiences missing out on other releases should lead him to buy less here, but that only works if everyone does so. The first moment someone breaks and scoops up a bunch, everyone else is incentivized to react accordingly.

Also, the moment you buy more than 1, someone could bemoan such greed that prevented them from getting to purchase it. Bottom line, it's on JA to put a limit on it if they see fit.

No limits at the brewery. Their beer, their decision.
