Was this only brewed once? I just came across some at a random little market and it didn't have a date on it that I could find. They're asking 23$ for a 750 so if it's from the 2013/14 release I'm probably not curious enough to pay that. If they just put out a fresh batch I'm much more open to that

2015 was the last year my store got it. I would say a bottle that old is just past prime, if it was kept in optimal conditions, I would be cautious of this one on a shelf for so long. I opened a '15 in the Spring and it was almost totally flat and showed some oxidation. Maybe they would be willing to drop the price?

I just checked my cellar and I have bottles of this from ‘14, ‘15 and 16. If the bottle you saw has a screen printed label on it then it’s from ‘14, the ‘15 release has a paper label and the year 2015 is clearly labeled on the front, the 2016 bottle has a paper label and says “Trip in the Woods” at the top of the label. As far as I know these are the only 3 times they released this in bottles, cans are coming this year. Hope this helps.

bummer it's definitely the oldest batch then. I might see if they'll give me a deal on the 5 year old beer but really i'll probably pass.

I had the 2014 and have a 2016 in the cellar. For my tastes, I prefer the non barrel aged Narwhal.

ya I have increasingly found that unless beers are built to be put in a barrel they are often better as the base, but I would still love to find a fresh BA narwhal, you know, for science:wink:

Look forward to a case every year..
    Verticals are my jam.

2019 Narwhal tastes great, but it seems like 2 years has been the sweet spot in my experience.

I've heard rumors that BA Narwhal is set to return this January in 16 oz cans.

That would be amazing! Hoping to see BA Bigfoot get the same treatment.

Yes, I'm enjoying one now and it tastes damn good for being packaged on 12/20/2019. It still tastes a little young, as in the flavors could interact a bit more and merge into something better than the sum of the parts. A sweet spot of two years sounds plausible. But for now this is a very enjoyable BA Stout.

A month later this is still fine. In fact this might be one not to sit on.
