Bellingham Beer Week is fast approaching, and there's a nice list of events. If you've been meaning to visit the City of Subdued Excitement, this is an excellent opportunity. The brewers cruises on the bay are great, and there's plenty of, ahem, rare beer to be found. More events will be added. This years collab brew, a Kellerweisse will canned next week, and the breweries are doing to be doing different things to the kegs they get. personalize them a bit, if you will. Maybe if a few of you want to come up, I could host a BA bottle share? Click the link for more info: http://bellinghambeerweek.com/index.php

I don't know Terry. The event list is impressive, I'll give you that, but once again, I see that Bellingham did not make the "pour fool's" top 10 emerging beer towns. It's hard for me to take any town serious that can't make at least one of his top 10 lists.

Going to be a killer week for sure! Maybe COBW can sponsor me for a research trip, or we can do some sort of exchange program? I come up there, then you come down here next year.

Let me ask some questions of some folks. Maybe we can figure something out.

Sorry, should have put a smiley after my comment. I can't get away from work to make it there, but you are absolutely invited to come to COBW 2015 so we can, uh, gain a better cultural understanding of each others' beer scenes. Like sister cities or something, yeah that's the ticket.

Yesterday Chuckanut brewed their BBW beer, an Alt made with grains malted in the Skagit Valley, Local Malt Alt, is only one of what is looking to be 10-12 distinct BBW beers. Fremont brewed one this week, and there is at least 1 collab from a Bham brewery with a brewery from a certain Central Oregon city of a similar size. More info as I get it.

Not sure if I'm spoiling the coy reference to "similar size" city or if there's another surprise coming, but Bellingham Crush by 10 Barrel is posted on the BBW site:

    http://bellinghambeerweek.com/beers.php

Both the Fremont and 10 Barrel sound excellent and I'm looking forward to all the other variations. Nice to see some big ambitions with 10-12 unique beers. It's like Bellingham Beer Camp!

Thanks for the tip. At the Brewfest, 10 barrel is pouring a "cider weisse" that is at least influenced by the 2nd Nail, if not the exact same thing, so I like that we still get to see these beers locally even if under different names.

Well, there's another one too. The brewer I was talking to is doing a collab with a Bend brewer. It's no big secret, but just hasn't been announced, so I'll extend them the courtesy of letting us know about their own beer.

Did the brewer go to Western?

Not the local brewer I was talking to. I have no idea about the other one.

A question for the group. On another site, I do an ongoing thread updating the beer news for myneck of the woods. Are y'all interested enough for to add a thread in the BA NW forum, or should I just drop nuggets as I encounter them in other threads?

I'm torn: your thread on that other site is one of the main reasons I bother to check the forums there.

I'm torn as well. I almost never venture north of the King County line, and I also almost never venture over to any other beer sites. (Call me a serious homebody if you need to give this behavior a label.) So while the information you post is probably of limited value to me personally, I also will likely never see it if you don't post it here.

Now, if more Whatcom County breweries get a clue and start packaging their beers and sending them to the most populous region north of San Francisco and west of Chicago, then I'd definitely be interested in new developments.

"Now, if more Whatcom County breweries get a clue and start packaging their beers and sending them to us."

But isn't that what the rest of the country says about Washington beers in general?

So Whatcom County is the Washington State of Washington State?
Anyway, no. That's what they say about Vermont. They couldn't care less about our non-rare beer.

So, Whatcom County is the New Hampshire of Florida?

(Yup, been drinking all day, while volunteering at Baconfest.)
