I've heard bc rare is falling off big and not worth acquiring. Wondering if that is true. And if it isn't, what would I need to add to a db cake to grab one? Thanks!

another DB Cake. and probably then some

whether or not it's "falling off" is 95% irrelevant. beers of this ilk trade primarily on how rare + how many people want them, not how they taste

Rare is very hit or miss at this point. If you get a good bottle its still freaking amazing.

This. Seek one out from a trustworthy trader who has kept it properly stored, and you won't be disappointed.

Thanks guys. I dont have 2 DB Cakes, he was wanting 4 BB4D on top of the DB Cake, i figured that was too much as 4 BB4D is the entire allotment from Kuhnhenn this year (300 total allotments).

This is not unreasonable at all. I think of trade value of Rare at about $70 worth of limited/harder to get beers with at least 1 "bigger" bottle involved. If you can't let go of all 4x BB4D, let go of 3 and add another equivalent bottle. I had a Rare recently and it was freaking incredible! I've had DB Cake and BB4D, and would do that trade in a heartbeat.

Try and confirm its condition before you trade for it. I'd also poke around to see if the trader ever made an older thread looking for Rare in case they are being dishonest and saying they cellared it since the release - which these days is rarely the case and "cellar" can mean their kitchen cabinet above the stove.

I echo everything said here. I headed this advise when I snared one in December and it was freaking great. Question your trading partner... if they aren't willing to answer, or get combative, think about whether you want to trade with them. The bottom line is... don't say you should have asked when you are drinking the beer... ask first.

My tasting opened a properly cellared Rare about a month ago and it was pretty fantastic.

Drank BC rare in december. The bottle had passed hands at least twice. Tasted great!! It was my favorite of the night.[IMG]

Rare blew me away when I had it in December. Best regular BA stout I've had maybe apart from Assassin.

Go for it @linnymtu - I know you got 2 of my bottles from solstice, so I'm sure you have at least 1-2 left afterwards . Good luck!
