I'm looking for public opinion on the exchange rates between different years of regular BCBS. For example, how many BCBS '11 would it take to land a BCBS '10, '09, '08, '07, etc? For the purposes of the answer lets ignore the 2009 bombers and say we're only talking about regular 12 oz bottles.

    Thanks!

Well, I recently traded some 09's 1 for 1 with 10's and 11's. Yay for vertical completion.

Ignoring '09 bombers, I think 09/10/11 are fairly interchangeable 1:1. I believe there was a bit more '09 made than '10 or '11, so even though it's older, it's a pretty even trade. At worst 4 11's should land 3 09's. The bombers are going up in value as it looks like it's the only BCBS that will ever be made in bombers. And bigger bottles are arguably better for aging...

'08 and '07 are going to be a little more pricey. They're rarer, they come from before hoarding beers in cellars reached a critical mass so there aren't as many out there, and they're more or less at their drinking peak right now. Basically if you sat on a beer for 4-5 years, what's really the point in trading them now that they're at their best, unless you either get an offer you can't refuse or you want to do someone a favor.

Thanks, that's good info. But still curious what you would have to pay in '11 to land an '07 or '08. Anyone?

I'd say it's gonna take at least 2 or 3 11s to land one 07/08, especially since a lot of people seem to agree that those years are reaching their peak right now.

I would say it would take at least 3, maybe even a 4-pack. Even then, I'm not quite convinced it's a beer you could land with a more current vintage of BCBS. Sitting on a beer for 4-5 years is a long time to just trade it away for an extra $10-$15 in current release beer.

11 is drinking amazing out of the gate. i wouldn't go 1 for 1 with 07 as i find 07 to be over the hill right now and not as good as 11. 08 is pretty fantastic right now, but i fear that right now will become a "was" within the next 6 months as 09's seem to be really coming into their own. i don't have any 08, but i wouldn't give up more than 2 11's for an 08. i'd say 2 for 1 on any vintage for an 08. giving up 3 for 1 is just crazy in my opinion...08 was excellent, but not 3 times as excellent as 09, and certainly not 3 times as excellent as 11...maybe 3 times as excellent as 10, but give 10 some time and i'm sure it will mellow out a bit.

If i still had any 08 to trade, I would happily trade it 1 for 2 for the new stuff. Is it better? Probably. Is it twice as good? Nah. Every BCBS I've had has been a wonderful experience, and i'd rather have two than one, lol. 3 or 4 to one is just crazy.

Does anyone have a ballpark number as to how many bottles of each year were released?

    Thanks for the info Chris.

If anyone else has release numbers for the later years, it would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure on 09-11, but if '08 was really 10,000 cases (240,000 bottles), and we know the batches have only gotten larger, then I'm not sure bottle counts really even matter at this point.

I believe the variants are all somewhere in the 12-24K range. Coffee has been produced twice now, so double that.

What about one's that could possibly be past their prime? Not saying any of these are as I haven't had experience with anything past '08.

What do you guys think it would take to land an '05? Is something like Chocolate Rain, BT, AFtW in the ballpark?

I recently traded my '05-'11 BCBS vert for (x4) King Henry if that helps at all...

I'd trade an '07 for two bottles of '11. In-person Indianapolis, you drive below Southport Rd*. I'd go 1:1 if you were a halfway-helpful poster on the website.

*No more driving to Westfield and getting home extremely late...
