I have traded/shipped growlers before, but I don't really see them much in the ISO/FT thread, so I am seeking some input about a unique situation. I might be able to get a growler of BCBS, and I was wondering if: A) there are people who would want this, and B) would a growler of BCBS trade in the same neighborhood as equivalent # of bottles (5 x 12oz bottles = 60 oz vs. 64 oz growler)? Secondly, and maybe this is the wrong place to ask this, but if I decide NOT to trade the growler, how long would it be able to sit around before I drink it? Something I could age or something I should drink pretty quickly? I know I should just try posting an FT, but I wanted to hold off on that until I actually do have a growler of it to trade. For now I am only asking because I want to know my options if I am able to get a growler of it - whether I trade it or keep it. Thanks in advance for your advice!
I would say its a $4$ not a oz for oz type of thing. At least that is how I have traded growlers in the past. Because it is a stout- If it is counter pressure filled and you don't open it, it can last for a while. If it is bottom filled and not opened I would say a month. One you open it, drink it as oxygen is your enemy
Keep in mind that BCBS is a high ABV beer. Unless you're going to have a party and share it among a few friends, it's probably not worth getting a 64oz fill of it. Oxygen will get to it way before you're able to finish it. You're better off just trading for bottles if they're not available in your area.
It'd be a tough trade if you're trying to get rarer stuff, but that growler--even not counter pressure filled--would probably last a year or so in the fridge.
