So this year I'm going to visit my girlfirend's family in Lancaster, which means I'll be off my home turf on the one day of the year my favorite beer is released. I've pretty much accepted that I'm getting hosed this year, and am already looking forward to 2015's BCBS. But I still have a shred of hope that some of this delicious nectar will find its way to stores in the Lancaster area on black friday. I know beer laws are weird in PA, with distributors and all. I would buy a case if a distributor had one, but I think the chances of that are pretty slim. I'm familiar with places like The Fridge, and I would even pay the $12-$15 a bottle I expect they will be charging if they get any, at least for a couple bottles, but I obviously would rather not have to.

So tell me Lancasterites, do you expect to see any BCBS, and what are my best options?

    Thanks!

I've seen Quip's Pub advertise that they will have it on draft on Friday, as far as bottles, I think your best bets in Lancaster will be The Fridge, Hunger and Thirst and/or Friendly Greek bottle shop but I have yet to see any of them advertise that they will definitely have bottles available on Friday.

I believe The Fridge and Hunger N Thirst definitely had it last year. I think Friendly Greek did too. Molly's had some at their carryout, but I remember the price being absurd (as in $15+ for a single bottle).

As far as this year, I haven't heard anything definitive. All I know is that it sold extremely quickly last year, and I failed to get any.

Oh, and I'd say there's 0% chance of finding a whole case.

I'm heading back to Lancaster for Thanksgiving and was wondering the same thing.

The Fridge just posted their release details. 11am on Friday. BCBS (2 bottle limit), BCBW (1 bottle limit), Vanilla Rye (1 bottle limit). They will also have BCBS and BCBW on draft.

Well that's the best news I've heard all day. Of course I'd like to have more but if I could get a Rye that would be very nice.

While not in Lancaster a beer distributor in Mechanicsburg, PA can get you a whole case for $136. Mechanicsburg Beverage Distributor can have the case for you on Wednesday Dec 3rd if you call today.

Friendly Greek has BCBS, Coffee, Barleywine, and Vanilla Rye. 40 bottles of BCBS with a limit of one, 20 of coffee and barleywine, and 10 of Vanilla Rye. Open at 11.

I'll probably end up at The Fridge instead, but we'll see. The Fridge has some going on tap too, while Friendly Greek only has bottles.

How did they end up with those odd numbers? Isn't this beer (like every other beer) allocated in units of 24 for 12 oz bottles and 12 for 22 oz bottles?

Edit: I just realized the answer to my question is almost certainly sales to employees.

Yeah, I'm sure that's the answer. Obviously the employees and owners want some.

The Fridge was out after 30 minutes. I managed to get 2 bottles of BCBS, and just missed out on Barleywine bottles by a few people. They still had both BCBS and Barleywine on tap when I left around 12pm, and they were both delicious.

    Was it still $40?

Yes 40$. Worth it? I think so. I spent more than that probably in gas to grab a couple waiting in 2 hour long lines in philly on black Friday. Are beer prices getting out of control? Absolutely! The craft beer bubble will pop soon with gouging like this. By the way this Wednesday the 17th bulls head in Lititz is having a bourbon county night with coffee,bw, bcbs on tap and they are pouring vanilla. They are raffling bottles off too I think. If I wasn't on vacation I would be there. Enjoy gents!

$40 doesn't surprise me. They always jack up their prices. I think they wanted $17 for a bottle of BCBS last year. No idea what they were asking this year, assuming they had any.

I gave up on beer shopping there. Other places almost always have better prices and more options. I still like the bar though.

Ridiculously high beer prices are a shame, even worse is that if people keep paying those prices, establishments will keep charging them. I too, was in last year as saw BCBS for like $17/bottle...kept right on walking to a place down the street that had beer just as good at much more reasonable prices.

About that Bull's Head event. For a place that has always been spot on with everything beerwise, this was quite a disappointment. Between 5:05 and 5:35, I received three (3) different versions of what was to take place starting at 6. Only one draft and two bottle versions for sale is what wound up occurring. Barmen were encouraging patrons to get tables in the room away from the main bar. At 5:45 when I checked out the situation, there was already a line of 20-30 or more folks. No heads up as of the line already formed on "the other side". Fellow behind me in line got texts from son updating with all the line crashers. At least 4, probably more to be truthful. With a limited amount of product offered, this was no small detail. This is exactly the kind of stuff that sours folks to events and venues and had led to confrontations (which no one wants) in the past. Very disappointing and completely avoidable in my opinion. Forgive me if I've come to expect better.
