Sorry, I guess I 'said' to much in the OP (alcohol will do that to ya). Just really enjoyed the BCBS I drank the other night. Looks like it might be hard to come by some this year though. Oh well...

That's a long time to sit on a beer, might get sore after a while!

In all seriousness, this beer tends to be best after 2 years of cellaring.

Depends on whether it is standing up or laying down

I've got 13, 14 and 15 at home. Once 16 is out I'll be hosting a vertical tasting for a few friends.

Invented bourbon barrel aged beer? Not. Beer has been stored in barrels since the making of barrels. See British empire and ipas on ships. Maybe made it more popular? Maybe. Please provide some more info.

Well since the only country where Bourbon is/can be made and legally called Bourbon is the US.... Remember he said bourbon barrel aging not barrel aging.

But even then they weren't the first to use Bourbon barrels, just, apparently, the first to do it commercially. As several accounts have it there was a Chicago area home brewer who and GI folks tried that beer and liked it so they brought it to market.

Yeah , that's an important distinction . It's as much flavoring the beer as it is aging it . Moreso, really .

Yeah, it's sort of like the distinction between barrel aged and oak aged. One has to be aged in barrels (but not necessarily Bourbon barrels), the other does not.

The refund check mad me not turn my back on them, but I'm not crazy about the $/oz on the 16.9s, they could easily make more coffee but choose not to, and finally they've REALLY lost me on the variants. Backyard and VR were great (and the 1st 2 props) but now, I dunno, SMDH. I still want to try Rare 2.0 at some point.

The liquid is still great, but everything else has room for improvement.

Very true. I often find BBAs to be too much for me, reminding me of poorly planned and executed Bourbon drinking episodes early in college. Mild whiskey barrel-aged beers can be great (to my palate), but plain barrel aging would fine with me.
