I have tried getting a trade for this in the past and for what I have accessible and on hand, quantity seems like my only option at the moment. I know that what it really boils down to is the right trader, but I was curious if I offered up a few Beat b5 (2-3 bottles) and some WBDPP 2012 (3-4 bottles) if that would be a reasonable offer. Clearly this is going way over $4$ and oz4oz, but that just seems to be the way Rare is going now-a-days...

First, what the heck is WBDPP? Second, Beat B5 were $15 each and Rare was $50 at the lowest price out there. I know several people that paid $70 for it so unless WBDPP is pretty expensive it doesn't appear that you are matching $4$.

Yeah, bottles were 20$ a piece depending on where you went. I think some people said there got theirs for as low as 16$, but I didn't see any that low.

I have heard that beer is "infected" or off. (512) Is that true?

There were issues on SOME of the 2011 bottles. I haven't heard anything about it on this most recent vintage. I've had it on draft more than a just a handful of times and there were no issues with those. I haven't had a bottle, but the only issue I heard from people that had consumed them was that some were gushers.

I opened one bottle of the 2012 and it was fine. I'm saving my other one but haven't heard anything, either.

FWIW, the Most recent WBDPP was WAY overcarbed. I recieved a couple bottles in a trade a couple months ago and I regret having traded for it. It was a bubbly mess. A shame because it would have been awesome otherwise. Not sure if it's all bottles but most of them were this way from what I've seen. The good bottles seem to be from people local to the distro who may have stocked up and now defending the brew because they are stuck with multiple bottles.

Unfortunately, some bottles were overcarbed, but personally noone I know that has opened a bottle has had an issue with that, but if you don't want any more bottles of it, that's fine, just more of me

Well there's at least one non-local. Seriously though, I've had a couple of bottles of this myself, and none had any carbonation or infection problems. Not saying this is the case in your situation vivas, but I wonder how many tales of over-carbonation result from hastily-chilled bottles recently shipped cross country.

I will say though, my bottle was pretty damn carbonated. I thought a bit too much, but no flavors associated with any type of infection were present.

EDIT: For full disclosure, I did open the bottle later that night after I received them, chilled for about 4 hours. It will be interesting to see how the other bottle is after months/a year in the cellar.

See my edit, I did drink it quickly after receiving.

Understood; hope the next one turns out better. My experience with each year's release has been that about 12 months does it pretty good, but I'm in the camp that thinks they are a bit hot when fresh. Inexplicably, I've also never had an infected bottle, although I don't deny that there have been plenty of tales of infection in the past.

For what it's worth I actually drank one '12 with a Founders rep and we both agreed it was VERY overcarbinated.

I've opened 3...none of which were overcarbed or infected. They were delicious.

I can't remember which vintages I've had, but every single WB Pecan Porter that I've had (at least 3 now) has been clearly infected or overcarbed. I believe at least one was 2012.

Regardless, I've heard of 3x Beat going for a Rare, so I don't think the Pecan Porter matters much.

Also to note, I suppose, is that (512) doesn't regularly bottle beers. To my immediate knowledge, there have only been five bottlings? (WBDPP vintages, Three, and Wild Bear) Due to the infrequence or perhaps perhaps inexperience of bottling might be a contributing factor.
