I have Rare, Vanilla, Bramble, Cherry Rye, Coffee '12 and Regular BCBS '12.
When it comes to tasting them with a few friends. Should we just start with the regular and work our way to the rare? Anyone done this before ? Any tips about what to put where in the order of things?
    Thank you in advance.

Im probably the only person on BA that thinks having a bunch of amazing beers that you may not get again in the same night isnt fun. I like to appreciate Cherry Rye for what it is, not compare it to a bunch of other amazing beers.

    Im weird

I have done this exact line up, and i worked my way from regular to rarest my opinion after doing this is that we should have started with rare, then coffee, then vanilla, then bramble then cherry and ended with regular as a comparison basis, my buddy did his this way and i attended it after mine and his was way better same, beer same quantity just different order made all the difference.

Vanilla, Bramble, and Cherry are sweeter than the others, so I'd probably do them as the second half of the lineup.

When we did ours we did Rare, Vanilla, Coffee, and then Cherry v. Bramble. The thought of starting with the Rare was why let the palates be affected by anything when you are drinking the best one!

Depends how many people you have but I'd like to be sober while trying rare for the first time.

I don't know, I guess I'm different. I'd say, go with what ever order you want as long as you have some palate cleansing in between brews...water.

We just need to add a guy or two to our usual tastings so we stopped getting so hammered so quick.

I agree. I will usually only drink one new beer a night and it is almost always the first one I consume. I dont want my taste buds to miss anything. An exception would be if i wanted a beer that went well with dinner and then had a new monster stout waiting for after the kids went to bed.

First of all, it doesn't really matter - you're going to be drinking some of the best-crafted beer in the world, and it's going to be delicious, and you're going to have an awesome time. So you know, whatever you decide to do, it's the right decision.

If you have more than a bottle of each, I would definitely second paring down to only tasting one or two. I find with these beers particularly, their flavors really develop in the glass as they warm up and your palate adjusts. With the Coffee, for example, I find I immediately get struck by the intense coffee aroma and flavor, but then the deep, bitter chocolate and dark raspberry notes come out as I get used to the beer. Having more of fewer beers allows every participant to have more of that one beer to experience this single-glass process.

From a more affective perspective, I think having too many beers might also create the "what's next" mentality. I know, for me, when there are all these awesome things to try all at once, I've already started the checklist in my head - and once I want to finish that checklist, part of me is now disengaged from that moment of experiential tasting. For me, limiting options narrows my focus, allowing me to totally involve myself in what I'm drinking, instead of thinking about how it might stack up against all these other things I'm going to taste or have already tasted.

Did something similar recently (no Cherry) and we opened the Rare and Vanilla first. Wanted to try the biggest/most expensive ones before we were buzzed / had palette fatigue. We opened Coffee and Bramble next (most people had all 4 of those going and bounced back and forth, which I dug a lot). We only had 4 of us, so had our share of each.

I'd suggest drain pouring them all and getting some decent beers to drink.

    Backwards in that order.

But I would consider dropping two or three of the variants and keeping it to three, maybe four different BCBS beers. Reasoning being, your palate is going to get killed by even just regular BCBS. Maximize enjoyment, although you could just make it a nice long session with lots of water and crackers in between.
