BCBS variation questions

Must of been a bad bottle or bad cellaring. Ive had a bottle about every month or so since release. Still tons of coffee. Obviously not as strong as fresh, but still great.

 

Yep, aged BCBCS is not good.

 

It's not as good as fresh, but it's not like it's terrible.

 

Coffee added to beer will sometimes give a Jalapeño flavor.

 

Ill chime in and say that I opened a 2011 BCBCS the other night and did not find it as enjoyable as the 10's and 12's I've had in the past couple months. Could've been storage or summer shipping, who knows. It's the definition of a first world problem because it still was better than 75% of the BA stouts out there.

Oh, and ill stir the pot a bit and say that this thread is still incomplete without mentioning the 10/12/07 batch of BCBS was aged in 21 yr PVW barrels

 

Your right I forgot that the 2005 was unmarked after the dot matrix bottles. Also Iooked at my BCBCS bottles and they still look orange to me, but I asked my neighbor and he said that they're definitley red. Also sometimes can't tell the differences between some shades of blue and grey. #fail

 

I may have gotten the years off, it was 09, 10, and 11 if 09 was the first year in Mass. In which case the 9 hung around, the 10 was very limited but I know I have at least 1 bottle in the cellar. 11 was here, and fair for avail.

 

no it wasn't. i wish people would stop perpetuating this rumour.

also, the bottles are buried in my cellar otherwise i'd go check, but at least 2012 bottles onward have special caps with the bourbon county logo as well. previous bottlings only had solid black caps.

 

Then you have the only bombers of '10 and '11 BCBS on the planet. Congrats!

 

Set up an IP trade would be the easiest way to obtain BCBS.

 

2012's BCBCS had a pepper-like taste due to the coffee bean that was used. I've opened 3 bottles so far to introduce the beer to people who haven't had it before and they all noted this. It's not necessarily a *bad* thing, its just got a bit of a green pepper taste going on.

 

I was there two weekends ago. Didn't look in stores, but was at a bar called Sheffields that had '07 bottles available. Pricey ($24) but oh so delicious...

 

Oh yeah? Well how do you explain this! I also read on ebay that this was true.

 

There are some old threads that have beaten this issue to death. IIRC that graph was not actually made by GI and a GI rep commented on the old threads saying until Rare, none of the bcbs was ever aged in Pappy barrels.

Pic of 2010 22oz. BCBS from cellar? Not trying to pile on but I'm 99.9% sure 2009 was the only year regular BCBS made it into a bomber. If you're able to provide proof that shows otherwise I think you'd have the attention of just about everyone here.
