"We don't agree, so your palate (or logic) is flawed."

That's the way Americans do it.

    Am
Americans?? What does America have to do with anything? I've only had the '10 and '12 years, so obviously only the '10 aged 2+ years. Being a chef, I like to think I have a solid palate. Maybe there's something up with the '11?

    Your humor/cynicism chip is broken.

Also, you being a chef doesn't give you the right to discredit anyone else's opinion. It's a beer discussion forum...

I have not yet picked up a green pepper element to the 2011 vintage. In fact I quite prefer the state it's in right now to when it was fresh. Odd. I did experience that in the 2010 vintage, so I know what you're referring to, just haven't seen it yet in the 2011.

I just tasted BCBCS for the first time (one of only a few variants I hadn't had the pleasure of trying yet). It was a blind tasting and I had no idea that was even present. Immediately I knew it was one of the Bourbon County Stouts...and not recognizing it completely and tasting faint coffee I had an inkling that it was BCBCS and guessed it had to be at least a year old since it wasn't a coffee bomb like I'd expect from the reviews.

It was in fact '11 BCBCS...it was delicious and at no point did I get green pepper or stale coffee.

I did try an '11 KBS yesterday and thought it tasted pretty stale until I ate a tortilla chip and rinsed with water. Bad pairings or bad cellar conditions could also contribute to BCBGPS syndrome. Certainly not all bottles of aged BCBCS have this problem.

Edit: I will say the coffee in the BCBCS '11 was subtle especially if you compare it to KBS '11 which still had lots of coffee flavor.

Dude. Not discrediting his or anyone's opinion. I completely have respect for Lurchingbeast and have traded with him. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I was joking about the "tune up" and because its a "Forum" I now know he was mostly referring to '11 BCBCS which is the only one I haven't had. I was just shocked to hear his opinion about it as I've noticed we tend to have the same opinions and likes on beer.

Share the wealth! I just traded my last one. Now I do have to say as amazing as BCBVS still is (coming from a total Bourbon County *****) it has seen better days.

Yeah me too. Seems a bit 4th grade. How about "intersection of haves" issue. Or less pedantically, "traders have the same shit."

For what it's worth- I just opened an '11 a couple of hours ago and it's drinking great. Coffee is subdued (but not as much as you'd think) compared to ~8 months ago when I last had it "almost fresh", but in a good way for me as I don't like coffee bombs that taste like I'm drinking an espresso and not a beer. Flavours melded together really nicely, huge coffee on the nose, plus a nice hit on the finish as well. From what I remember, the 2010 at a simular point in time (release + 1 year approx.) didn't taste nearly as good as this. However, this might be due to the "base" BCBS that goes into the variants tasting better to me from 2011 .vs. 2010.

(edit: Also, not even a hint of green pepper at all from what my friend and myself could taste, just pure 2011 BCBS goodness + coffee flavours)

Interesting that even though king henry is "falling off" so much, over the last 25 reviews the lowest score has been 4.38 with only one other, a 4.45, under 4.5. It actually has a 4.72 rating over tha last 25 which is above is 4.66

Disclaimer: I have not had this beer since my initial review right after the release

rarity does tend to raise people's opinions of a beer...but I'm not saying that it isn't great. Can't wait to open mine.
