Buy bud and leave it in my beer fridge so guests don't open my bourbon county.

As much as it sucks, its only a matter of time until rare beer starts to cost a lot of money. There are 3x as many people out there now than a year ago hunting the same bottles.

It already IS costing a lot of money; Vanilla was $13.99 in 2010.

Syosset had the worst policy for their vanilla, it was like $26/ bottle AND you had to buy a case or two of GI verity pack. They had it today, I didn't even bother, I don't like those policies.

I called Willis Beverage and they said they have a limit of 1 on regular. Are people insane? Limit of 1 on something that will be on the shelves for the next 3 months. Made me laugh.

Its not going to be on many shelves for the next 3 months.

It kills me to see all these 'horror' stories. To me, it seems like it is more likely the store than the brewery or distributor. Remember, it is the same distributor for every store on the Island. If one store can sell a single Vanilla and/or BW without having to purchase a 4-pack of BCBS or a case of another GI product, then there is no logical reason besides $$$$ why another store would require it.

Monarch in LB, which in the past people have given shit, did it fair. First come, first serve. You didn't have to buy a 4-pack or a case of BCBS or some other GI product in order to get a bottle of Vanilla and BW. If you were there, and it was available, you could purchase it. They are selling BCBS by the 4-pack and still have a few cases left.

I agree @BoardwalkBock . From past conversations with multiple store owners, I am pretty sure the distributor makes them purchase X cases of regular or other stuff from GI to get the variants. I think the owners then figure the best way to ensure the regular or standard offerings from GI sell out is to tie the sale of the variants to them. Either way, it is annoying.

I understand the thinking is they don't want people coming from out of nowhere to buy just one or a couple of bottles BUT that shouldn't open the possibility to rip people off.

I actually like the way Beverage Barn in GC handles their really rare stuff. They take down names and raffle off bottles. I believe they "favor" their loyal, everyday customers. As this is my go to distributor, I guess I have more of a reason to like this process BUT they specifically told me I am one of many.

-note to distributors, if you really don't like people coming in just to buy these bottles, don't order them.

FYI..heard from someone who just went to BP, that in order to get the vanilla, coffee or BW, you have to purchase a GI package that runs $200+...they are selling reg BCBS by itself

My wife called and they said the same thing. $219 package. I like the place as they get a lot of stuff others on LI don't but I am going to give him feedback that this is pretty bad. Am fascinated to see if he sells them.

I posted this on the BCBCS post:

Distributors forcing stores to buying thousands of dollars worth of random GI beer (Matila, Honkers, IPA, etc.) in order to get an allocation of BCBS and its variants. Unless you expect a store to soak up the cost of GI beer sitting on their shelf, I guess it's a necessary evil and you can always turn down buying and leaving it for someone else.

It's not "Hey, let me make more money off of this shmuck buying BCBS," but instead "I'd prefer not to sell this beer at a loss, so please buy the beer that the distributor forced me to buy in order to get your Bourbon County + variants."

This is getting out of control. if they can't sell their less desired beer, trying to sell it by packaging it with the highly desired beer is not cool at all. People just need to take a pass on it, lots of other great beer out there, don't fuel the feeding frenzy by buying these outrageous packages.

The amount of goose cases a store has to purchase to get a large allocation of bourbon is in the hundreds. This cost isn't going to be recouped by pushing a case with each of the 12 or 24 vanillas a store is allocated. I like how top hops and hicksville had it bundled with other bc beers that i was going to purchase anyway, but when you make a customer purchase one of every goose product in the store it gets a little ridiculous. In my opinion it is
"Hey, let me make more money off of this shmuck buying BCBS" at bp.

Syosset requiring the purchase of a case of 4 month old flight pack sucks also.

And yet a majority of stores don't do this. They are not forced to carry the BCBS and variants. Who knows the real reason but at the end of the day I will not be supporting Beverage Plus anymore. No way one can justify how they approached this.
