This makes me wonder what Heady would taste like without the super peachy yeast and how it would compare to something like Be Hoppy.

That makes me wonder why no one else uses the Conan yeast (that I know of...)

i'm fairly sure alchemist wasn't the only VT brewery using that yeast. i think lawson's and HF too used it, actually, but i'm not entirely sure. doesn't the yeast have its origins with noonan (like everything else)? edit: that said, i highly doubt it's what HF and lawson's use now, at least not exclusively.

since kimmich stopped hiding it, i believe it's begun being sold outright. wouldn't be too surprised if breweries are buying.

edit: p.s. i'd grab some be hoppy cans if i saw them. hope it's as good as it was when i had it on tap. QC not the easiest thing in the world.

I realize I've basically just accepted the $12 sixer to be the norm...or in the case of Sculpin, the $15 sixer :grimacing:

One or two years ago, before I was aware of such hop-heavy beers, I tried a sample of I Be Hoppy on draught and couldn't even finish the little sampler because it was TOO hoppy for me.

Curious what I think of it now, as I have drank a few IPA's (none nowhere as hoppy) and enjoyed them. I know my tastes for beer have changed incredibly over the past year or two.

Similarly, some years ago I had a very hard time finishing a sixer of Celebration. It was where I drew the line of "too hoppy." But today I suck'em down and laugh at how much my palate changed. I say give Be hoppy another shot if you see it on draft somewhere, at least to see if your palate's changed in even such short time.

Let me know when you see it out this way.

This great news for me. Be Hoppy is one of my favorite new IPAs Ive tried this year, along with Larry. I much prefer a four or six pack format to 22s. When Jack's Abby moved Hoponius Union to the 6 pack I find myself buying it more often than I did before.

When? I saw some there last Saturday, and I can't imagine they'd get shipments in on a Saturday...had to have been left over from the week.

Side note - I saw a stack of maybe 7 cases at Martignetti's in Brighton last Tuesday. Also saw fresh Lunch sitting on the shelf...

They got them on Friday the 13. According to them it sold out in 30 minutes.

I went to my local store and they had at least 5 cases of Be Hoppy cans. I purchased 2 4 packs. Glad I live in blue collar Bud Light country.

I just dug into my recycling bin and compared an empty Wormtown tall can with an empty Alchemist can...they both worked fine and are good cans, no issues I can see...

the cans are of the same quality as any other. wormtown chooses to wrap the cans as oppose to print directly on them due to the fact that can minimums with printing are extremely large.

i'm suprised your meh on be hoppy. i'm pretty picky with ipa's, but always enjoy be hoppy and consider in the same tier as many of the top ipa's available in new england.

Be Hoppy could be best readily available IPA in Mass. Even with some time on or improper storage (on shelf warm). Its still an awesome beer.

Just think...some day you'll walk into a MA package store and see Be Hoppy, Larry, and Julius all in cans. Dare I say it... some day Ghandi-Bot and Heady Topper too?
    Merry Christmas!
