Agree on the Lancaster Kolsch. I had my first recently looking for a summer boat beer. I do like big IPA's but in sweltering heat, I like it toned down a bit. Sly Fox 113, Phoenix Pale and Pikeland Pils are our regular, easy to get can choices. My wife's new favorite is 21st Amendment Brew Free or Die. Little Yella Pils tasted sweet to me and didn't think it went as well with temps in the upper 90's. Grey Sail in Rhode Island has a couple beers that I'd like to try and Daisy Cutter in a can would be great.

I've seen this every time I go to Wegmans, and it's what, $9.99 for a 6-pack of tallboys? It's tempting but I've never had the beer before. Though for $10, it's not much of a risk...

Seconding Gansett Summer. I was pleasantly surprised by that one. Their seasonals are pretty good for the price. I'd also throw Twin Lakes' Greenville Pale Ale in the ring. A solid APA.

I THINK trader joes has it for even cheaper.

The Trader Joes in PA don't sell beer, unfortunately. It's a shame. I always hear their house brands talked about as great value beers.

100% true. I've always liked their Mission Street IPA (recently found out it's made by Firestone Walker), and I think it's like $6 or $7 for a 6-pack. A few of the others are also very good, and all a bargain. They also tend to have some quality name brand stuff, generally for similar prices you will find elsewhere.

And if you like crap beer, they even have versions of that at low prices ($5 or less for 6).

One of my favorite bangs for the buck, regardless of season. You won't be disappointed and it won't put you on your ass.

Sly Fox Pikeland Pils is sooooo much better, and cheaper.

    My choices would be:

    Sly Fox Pikeland Pils
    Sly Fox Phoenix Pale
And my personal cheap favorite Yuengling Lord Chesterfield

Have to give this one a +1. Was in Chicago earlier this year and Daisy Cutter was delicious...even in the plastic cup it was served in at lunch on the riverfront.

A coworker brought me a can of Daisy Cutter last time he went home. Great stuff; I would definitely suggest it if you can get any.

Another suggestion: water! Just a reminder. You're in the sun all day; beer and beer alone can be tricky.

Keith, where you find Lord Chesterfield in cans? I have been on the ‘look out’ for a six-pack of Lord Chesterfield but I have had no luck (so far).

To the OP: I would strongly recommend Sly Fox Pikeland Pils.

    Cheers!

Jack, I get them by the case, never really looked for six pack cans. Cases should be in most beer distributors. I got my most recent case at Exton Beverage.

I will typically fill up my stainless steel growler with whatever and bring that to the beach. Carton Brewery is only a few minutes from my house so I usually pick up boat beer from them.

Dang, no mention of Brooklyn Summer? In know it only gets a low to mid 80's grade on this site, but that's a tasty freaking summer brew from a can (draft and bottle too) that meets the OP's criteria (beach + can drink a ton!!), NO? My opinion, way underrated. some good recommendations (slyfox and naragannsett) also. But, again IMO and experience, big hops and the beach don't mix too well. Reminds me of doing gravity hits out of a tub in my college days. Straight to the head.

I just bought a 4 pack of Torpedo for tomorrow at the beach. 7.2%, but whatever. Let's get shitty, the beach blows.
