I live in the Dana point area and don’t travel up in the LAish area often. I am picking some people up at the Long Beach airport at 12 so I thought it would be perfect to stop by beachwood for some beers and lunch. I just learned they no longer do bbq?

they only do smash burgers? Still worth stopping by? I would like to get some beachwood beers with lunch. What’s the best spot for lunch now at beachwood?

I first tried beachwood when they were only in seal beach and loved their food. I issued to go to the Long Beach for my bday with the fam every year. Stop like two years ago. Just became a hassle driving all the way up then waiting and driving back with little kids. Bummed I liked their food.

I was just reading how they were losing thousands of dollars and had to close the kitchen down. Bummer.

They got rid of their bbq menu awhile back. Menu changed completely. Then the6 shut down the kitchen. Smash burgers are from a vendor. Have not tried it.

There was a whole thing about foot traffic being down by almost half in the area due to the large influx of homeless people and the news scaring folks away.

it’s like the news thinks it’s helping but really only making a bigger problem by creating a perceived danger. Also, read costs are rising and with more people working from home there is less people in the area daily.

thats why everyone's switching to Pizza

Cheap and profit margin is much higher that BBQ.

Nobodys really buying that stuff with the prices where they are.
What are average consumers more likely to buy to go with beer..
15 dollar plate of 1/4 lb of meat *at most*
    or 2 slices of pizza?
I never visit long beach so not too much in the know about current happenings.

The place doing smash burgers there has a great reputation. I haven’t had them yet but the internet consensus is that they’re good.

When the Oceanside location launched thats what the tacos were going for (some for 20 or even 22 iirc, it was ludicrous).

But to your point, they seem to have heard the outrage and slashed the prices significantly. I even saw a Tuesday all-day happy hour deal they're doing at Oceanside for 2 tacos and a house beer for 20 bucks. That's an easy sell for me given how stacked those tacos are.

I recently went there on a Friday about 20 minutes before closing to get some tacos and maybe one of the specials if they had any left (at the original SJC location). I got 2 pulled pork tacos (only had pulled pork and brisket left) that had probably 3-4 tacos worth of meat on them collectively. My wife got brisket and the same thing happened. Pretty sure they knew it was close to closing time and were trying to offload the last of the meat for the day. If you can time that right, thats a prime time to get there.

    I hear ya, and I can't argue.

But every now and then I still think about the lamb ribs at the original Beachwood BBQ in Seal Beach, and I find myself wishing for things that money can't buy anymore.

I feel like Beachwood LB is on its deathbed, which sucks.

That being said, the pizza joint in HB has a very similar feel, and the food is great.

If they go down it’s by choice and not due to lack of business. Which is definitely a bummer because that’s the location I prefer.

The Bixby Knolls location is a cool spot with many of the newer Stern pinball machines available to play in the back. Parking is easy too.

I had the new Beachwood /El Segundo collab and was extremely underwhelmed by it. was it because of the canadian matlt or someshit? i felt like i was drinking some Madewest stuff .
I still love both breweries ( even tho i prefer ESBs Barrel Program 100x over) , but this was very below ' Meh ' for me

I only partially agree with that… it feels like Beachwood has kind of just given up on their DTLB location, which is sad because it was my go-to as well. I loved their BBQ and the environment was awesome. That being said, like many urban centers right now (SF, Portland, Seattle, etc…), DTLB has really struggled getting back on its feet post-pandemic, and a lack of people flocking in the area combined with the blight that often comes with that makes it really difficult for Beachwood to justify keeping the place open. I’d imagine that if they didn’t have a production facility in the location they’d just cut their losses and move out like so many other businesses have. It’s really sad because in the early-mid 2010’s, DTLB was really on the upswing and was actually becoming a pretty pleasant place to visit (as a resident of Long Beach almost my entire life until 2017, I’ve seen downtown Long Beach go through several boom and bust phases, but nothing seemed to stick except for the stuff right on the water, but it really felt like the Promenade had found a sweet spot until the pandemic hit). With how many growth opportunities Beachwood has found elsewhere, I can’t blame them for essentially divesting in their DTLB location… but it sucks, which may be why they are trying to hold on as long as possible.

Disclaimer: This is just my perspective, so I bet there are many others who have a better understanding of the situation.

Anyone else attend yesterdays anniversary party? They were pouring their new WCIPA Stratallite Orbit which was fantastic. I found it similar to their newest batch of Super Citrus.
Both packed with flavor. They also debuted a new 2IPA Dank Brigade. The name is fitting. I picked some 4 packs to go.

I didn’t know there was an ann’y party, but we stopped into the Bixby Knolls location before closing yesterday and had a few, including Stratalite Orbit. I liked it also, killer nose.
