I will be in the vicinity of the Beachwood brewpubs later this week and noticed that they were releasing Sadie tomorrow. Will it likely still be available either in the bottle or on tap on either Wednesday or Thursday evenings? I am not that familiar with the area so any advice would be appreciated.
Well the last barrel aged release, 8 Buffalo, seemed to last in bottles for a few days if I remember correctly. On draft it was gone in about an hour. I imagine Sadie will hang around as long or longer due to the price ($25 a bottle) and the fact that it seems to be less sought after than the 8 Buffalo.
I was there yesterday and one of the employees said it will be bottle release only and not on draft. I think because of the price tag it should last a few days, as stated above.
I think it also has to do with it being labeled on their site as an Old Ale, which isn't a huge crowd attractor like BBA Stout or Barleywine (OR SCOTCH ALE HINT HINT NUDGE NUDGE BEACHWOOD) edit: at the perceived lack of excitement
I tried to grab a bottle from the Seal Beach location, but they sold out before 6:00. Does anyone know of Long Beach still has bottles?
I was there 1.5 hours ago, short line & they still had. Hopefully you drove over & got some. It was limit 3.
So were there many bottles left? Also, I have seen conflicting reports about whether the beer is on tap. Anybody know for sure?
According to Untappd (can we say that here?) check-ins, Sadie is definitely on tap in Long Beach ... Saw the pictures myself ... 10oz for $8
Had it on tap, very good! Lots of coconut and vanilla in the nose, tastes great too. Can't wait to see what a couple months does for this. I believe there were plenty of bottles left when I left, about an hour ago
I had it on tap last night at LB. Was super excited about the release but was a little underwhelmed. It was good but sadly nothing special.
I came in with low expectations and was really impressed. Very dry and drinkable for the abv. Loved the higher than normal carbonation...think it let out some extra bourbon in the noise.
I got the last pour from the keg yesterday but bottles were still available when I left. Thought the Bourbon was well integrated and produced a really mellow flavor. Was also glad the beer didn't have the boozy hotness I often find with younger high ABV, barrel-aged beers - spending a full year in the barrel really smoothed things out. As an aside, that one ticker rated it a "1" and another rated it a "5" shows what's wrong with the ticking system.
IMO, it's yet another mediocre BW barrel-aged beer. The barrel aging program from BW feels forced, like someone told Julian he had to do some barrel aging to get the beer geeks excited and so he begrudgingly threw something together. IMO they should stick to their strengths: solid, on-style beers of various origins.
