I recently traded an Iced Eclipse for four bottles of batch 5.

Eh, I've had batch 2,3, and 5 within the past few years, all on multiple occasions except the 002 was only once. 2 is the sourest, 3 has the most tropical fruit flavor ( and when had side by side with an authentic Gueuze, it was actually a bit sweet) and IMO 5 has the best qualities. Sharp acidic bite, subtle funk, and a nice mellow background oakiness.

In all seriousness has anyone tried Batch 4 lately? I've still got my 2 bottles and wanna crack one soon. Just didn't want to drink one young seeing as I only have 2... I was told it has a unique profile quite different from other batches.
2 is lemony sour with low carbonation.
3 is super intensely sour, last time I split a bottle with someone my stomach was not happy afterwards. Mike is right about the tropical element.
5 is drinking really harshly sour right now, atleast the last bottle I had was. People will probably like this. Was more tropical right out the gate. Now it is intense grapefruit pith.

Opened one of my two bottles several months ago - honestly don't remember it being all that different from the b5 bottles I've had since then.

I only had batch 004 the day of the release. It was very good. But, now that I have drank about 12 bottles of batch 005, I may be able to tell the difference, but there is no guarantee. I'll have one soon, and report back.

I thought b4 was just for hoarding...

I shared one with the staff at RR a month or two before batch 005 came out, gave one away in a BIF, traded one for a Batch 003, and have two left to probably use in some sort of vertical if I can find another Batch 003.

I also traded for one of the batch 004 bottles above as part of a larger trade so it's hard to place exact value on what it specifically went for, although it was part of a deal involving me trading out two 3Ls and getting a bunch of sours and lambics in return.

So while being "hoarded" I'm sure there isn't much left to hoard, probably less than 250 bottles even. :grinning:

As far as trading batch 005, I'm partial to the 2x Beatification for Fou Foune, but may reconsider this type of trade as my supply dwindles and Fou Foune keeps coming out.

After having probably tried around 50 or so of the batch 005 bottles since the release there is some pretty significant bottle variation that I've noticed from funky and mild to mind blowing acid sour, but for the most part it is one of the best beers in the world that I've ever tried and I'm excited to try the next batch when it's ready!

On the one bottle that I had a couple months ago I agree, although I can see batch 005 being unreal delicious in a year or two or three or more!

It's a very good American Sour. At the release, the most recent (and largest) batch was $15/bottle, sold only at the brewery with a six bottle limit. Roughly 12k bottles; it lasted about a month. Shouldn't be too hard to snag a bottle or two.

It trades easily for some of the beers on your gots list. You can score multiples.

The last one (or more? I can't remember) that I traded out was for BCBS '12. Beatification wasn't particularly hard to get; it took some effort, as in driving to the brewery (which is remote for most immediate-Bay Area BAs) but it wasn't tough to find. I sent out a lot at cost; there's probably more in Chicago than in SF at this point.

Offer something that, in all honesty, took some effort but was not particularly hard to get, and you'd probably get plenty of offers. For example, if you drive to San Diego and pick up a few Alpine, Rip Current, or Societe growlers, you'd probably do fine with those. Not everyone views Beatification as their ticket to the Kingdom of Wales.
