Did that, thanks. But as you see, there are 0 reviews and 1 is a grocery store. I'm asking if there is any thing in the surrounding area.
this might be your best bet for a legitimate "bottle shop". It's a little farther north in Fayetteville, right near the New River Gorge Bridge. WV doesn't have the best distribution, but the owner tries her best. She's also one of the only places you can get bottles by local brewery Bridge Brew Works. You can check out the views at the bridge over look. that's worth the 30 minute drive, IMO oh and you can stop in at Pies & Pints for beer on tap http://www.facebook.com/pages/Studio-B-Art-Boutique-Wine-Beer-Gallery/205270868720?fref=ts
Immediate area, I'm afraid the answer is no. The region is a beer Sahara I'm sorry to say. The Kroger mentioned in the directory will have something suitable for drinking, but by no means special or new to you. I know of no restaurants or bars that are worth visiting. If you are at all able, your one saving grace may be to travel north on US 19 about 30 minutes to Fayetteville. There you will find a little joint called Pies and Pints. They have the strongest line-up in that part of the state and regularly have Bridge beers on tap and in bottles. It may not blow your mind, but it will at least be something new. It is a nice place, they have great pies, phenomenal wings, and a fun atmosphere. Most of their barkeeps are even knowledgeable in what they're serving. Sorry about Beckley. How long do you have to be there? If it's for an extended period I would suggest bringing a selection of your favorites with you because you won't find them there. Edit: nicked by a dime! Studio B is a knick-knack shop that sells bottles of both wine and beer, but for tourist consumption. Selection is minimal but whiskeytown is correct in that it is the only thing that remotely resembles a bottle shop in the area. Prices are pretty inflated, even on Bridge's normally overzealous price point.
Thank you both for the help. I am in Beckley Thursday-Saturday for a golf tournament. I'll try to head to Fayetteville then to atleast try something new, that's all I am looking for anyway I'm coming from Charlotte, so are there any places you would recommend that isn't too far off the route?
I don't know how far you are looking to travel, but the best bar in terms of selection in Southern WV is the Irish Pub in Lewisburg (about 50 mins east of Beckley). You can read my review of it if interested. WV is prob the worst when it comes to craft beer, we just don't get many distributors. But the Irish Pub carries almost every brewery that we do have, usually around 100 different bottles. They also have Bridge Brew and Mountain State Brewing on tap. Also, I don't know when your tournament is, but their is an Oktoberfest in Bramwell (about an hour south of Beckley) on Saturday, $20 for about 15-20 breweries. It's always a good event.
Also, if you do go by Studio B, Bridge Brew Works Dubbel is probably my favorite. Their Baltic Porter is pretty good also if you like smoky porters.
If you're coming from charlotte swing through Blacksburg,VA, it will cost you about 45 minutes, but its worth it. Check out Vintage Cellars and the Kroger's next door, there's a restaurant off of Main Street back on your way to 460 called The Cellar that has a pretty good selection on tap. You can look up what Vintage Cellars has through their website to see if it's worth the detour. Also The Krogers on Harper Rd in Beckley, generally has the regular stuff from Great Lakes Brewing. Pies and Pints in Fayetteville is pretty solid as others have said, just watch your speed on 19 through Mount Hope, Oak Hill, and Fayetteville.
And Pies and Pints has some of the best pizza you'll ever eat. They have a second location in Charleston and they're also in the process of franchising the restaurant to other states. Right now they're in the process of opening two locations in Columbus. The beer and food is worth the 30 minute drive.
In downtown Lewisburg there is a wine shop that has a very (actually very, not just a for WV very) respectable craft beer selection. I'm a proud native of Lewisburg, WV and the last time my girlfriend and I went to visit my folks we enjoyed a six pack of Breckenridge IPA.
You should add this place to the directory. Only place listed for Lewisburg right now is the Irish Pub
Tobacco Town in Beaver has a really good selection of craft beers. I the past year they hae really improved their shop. They have built a huge walk-in humidor. They had everything from Montecristo, Rocky Patel, Ashton, Cohiba and whole bunch more. They had 4 doors of craft and import beers. Had Breckenridge brews like the Oatmeal Stout, Vanilla Porter and the 471 IPA smal batch. Seadog IPA, Napa Smith Lost Dog and Pale Ale, Shipyard Export and IPA, 4 different Rogue 6pks, 2-3 Great Lakes, Sneaky Pete 4pks, harpoon summer and the 91 rated Leviathan Imperial IPA. Had several Japan and Philipino beers. They also had 2 of the local Bridge Brews. Overall I was excited to find a Beer/Cigar store here in Beckley area. Highly recommend a stop when you are the area-easy access from interstate also. I stopped and got the 2013 Sneaky Pete 4pk and a Ashton VSG and paid $27. Very happy with both!!
