Beer Abstinence

Four weeks for an mma fight. Am currently not drinking right now as I am trying to keep my weight at 155 for a fight next weekend. It is beginning to get on my nerves working a full time job, doing ridiculous workouts and training two nights a week and not being able to unwind with my favorite beers on the weekend followed by eating bland food. I have not quit buying beers though. I have amassed a celler with barleywines, imperial stouts, and a few brand new maharaja's and hercules.

 

currently on day 3 of 10 days of antibiotics/ decongestant.. no beer for the 10 days, until i can get back to the gym and am off the meds. stupid me, i went on a beer buying binge the other day and have a a house full of beer that i cant drink. watching college hoops and playing guitar are both significantly less enjoyable without a beer.

 

Well after 10 days, I bet the first beer you drink would be orgasmic!

 

Probably broom birth to age 4 or so. Form then I have probably had at least a sip from then to now. So 4 years.

Well this is me from the lack of good beer. A sheer panic situation anyway.

 

I once abstained from beer for 5 years, under the misguided notion that it would make my now ex-wife a happier woman.

 

I quit for 11days earlier this year while doing a clense. I lost 14 pounds during the clense and 6 more since. I didn't think I could do it but seeing the weight come off made it easy.

 

I hear ya about this! I have to say that when I go to the gym I push myself like a madman's last day on earth, and sometimes I suffer TOO much with a pulled back muscle! Missing out on your regimen just plain sucks! So if I hurt myself and have to take a week of to recover, no beer that week!

 

I'm cutting way back to lose some weight, so it's mainly Miller Lite and 64, but I do have the occasional Two Hearted when it's on tap. If there's not a problem or a real reason why abstain, life is short?

 

I have a rule that on days with no exercise, I don't get to drink any beer. Vacations excepted, of course! In other words I exercise almost every day.

 

Once to twice a year I will abstain for a full month. I find it a great way to help cleanse the body and hopefully keep me enjoying delicious craft beer for longer. I also have a history of alcoholism in my family so being able to go a full month helps to prove to myself that I don't have a problem. Also, the first beers after a month without are sublime.

 

What is this abstinence you speak of? Never heard of it.

 

Painful story...Did you make up for it?

 

You can drink on antibiotics with no real change on the effectiveness of the meds.

 

Three months and counting.

 

When I turned 21 I rarely if ever drank beer. And when I did drink, rarely, it was wine and spirits, sometimes cocktails, until I realized that cocktails are marked up just to make the drink sweet (lame). I was already 30 when I finally caved into trying 'all those weird beers' at Trader Joe's, then I got on the Stone Wagon and drank Arrogant Bastard a lot. I finally started shopping at Bevmo, and now the two years since, I haven't gone more than a week without a beer. Damn you, people!

 

The longest I've gone without a beer is maybe a couple days when sick with flu. I usually have a couple of fine craft beers every night.

 

8 Years. With the money I saved I bought my cow bike.
