I don't know really. Probably a couple of months or so when I went through my malt whisky or death phase. Still love the stuff but in the world of booze good beer really is my true love.

3 months because I wanted to lose weight and keep it off and didn't want that extra light watery stuff like mich ultra, mgd 64 etc.

I honestly enjoyed beer more (but didn't know as much about it in general) back when I had a couple bottles once a week. Knowledge requires sacrifice I guess. Presently, I drink it daily or every other day. DO NOT get into that groove if you can help it. Hurts your wallet, your sleep patterns, your health, etc.

beer abstinence is no fun. a beer a day keeps the voices away.

I took a little break after new year's leading up to SF Beer Week to cleanse & reset my palate. A little over a month with no beer was tough but well worth it, that first beer after was like a flavor explosion!

i gave up beer for lent (Christian) completely voluntarily, not all alcohol as i don't crave wine & liquor like i do beer.... i can tell you i think about Christ's sacrifice for me A LOT... makes me also appreciate beer much more not having it regularly.

    so today is day 21

I think the real question I should be answering is the last time I went without smoking...can't even remember. As for beer though...probably a week or two.

I usually try to only have beers on the weekend. But about 2 years ago I quit beer for a good 4-5 months on a diet. I lost 60 lbs, so I feel limiting the amount during the week will help maintain.

i was trying to make it the full 10 days. but, today i came home to March madness and found my wife had gone beer shopping for me. waiting in the fridge:
    pliny
    blind pig
    tba
    mongo
    sculpin
    hop stoopid.

i mean honestly, there is only so much i can do. so, what i did was enjoy a tba. and then i went with a torpedo, which i bought just before the 10 days started.

    go mizzou!

I give up alcohol completely (I'm also a big wine fan, though not as much as beer) for Lent every couple of years. The interesting part is that I don't consider myself religious or spiritual in the slightest. I'm a materialist agnostic. But I do find a certain redeeming quality in the notion of sacrifice. One need not be religious to recognize that certain morality and ethics that all religions generally share are worthwhile. In the same vein, one need not believe in the divinity of Christ or his resistance to temptation during a 40 day exile in order to appreciate the value of an occasional self-denial to test one's own will.

Although, one of my guilty pleasures during Lent is buying a reasonable amount of good beer to celebrate my completion of with.

6 days. I've recently picked up the habit of abstaining from beer on Sunday (for the most part).

Telling yourself you can't have a beer is a surefire way to make you want one. Like right now for example. I like to try and take a few days off at a time just to make sure I still can. I don't want to have to give it up I like it so much so it's best not to let it get out of hand.

    About 10 weeks.

Went to Navy boot camp this past April and obviously couldn't drink for those eight weeks. When I got out of there, the first base I was on for training had a phased liberty policy and I wasn't allowed to drink for two weeks. It annoyed me because, while in boot camp, my girlfriend wrote to tell me about how she was in Belgium visiting breweries :-/
