Is it just me or could anybody else use a directory of beer acronyms? I look through the trading threads and often cannot figure out which beers are being referenced.
It’s hard to keep up, that’s for sure! Usually a quick Google search including the acronym and the word Beer lead down the right path. Doesn’t seem all that difficult to actually type out the full name in posts but WTF do I know
That's a lot of acronyms. So many, in fact, that we could create a test and set up trader rating system based on one's ability to link each acronym with the correct beer!
This doesn’t work for everyone, but my personal feelings on beer acronyms is if I don’t know what it stands for then I probably don’t need to trade for it. Haha.
http://www.beertradingglossary.com FWIW, DBBCBS, ANTEAD & BAIGCCS are good examples of why this kind of entry/search would be nice as a Beer Advocate feature. I suppose it does exist, in a way, through Beer search function but it would be nice if it was somehow efficient when in the trading forums and threads.
I think in titles it would be fine to abbreviate beers but it would be wise to actually spell it out in the post itself. Sometimes people will have what you are looking for but not recognize the abbreviation and skip the post altogether. I know we all know what this is referring to but not all these abbreviations are acronyms but I get the point.
