Agreed on the Homebrew point!! Makes you fall in love with craft beer again. You can't beat the pride of your own homebrew!

I went through a phase where all I seemed concerned with was trying the rarest/most expensive/highest rated/Top 100 beers. Right now I'm finding it more fun to pick up bottles I've never tried in styles I don't always enjoy (in the search for beers of those styles I'd like the drink), grabbing 6-packs of year-round shelf beers to figure out which ones are my favorites, and picking up neglected bombers I wouldn't have given a second thought to before on my way to the "higher rated" beers.

More often than not, if it's not relatively easy to find on the liquor store shelf then I don't worry too much about it. That still gives me plenty of amazing beer to choose from and keeps me more than interested in the world of craft beer.

This is exactly right. IMO most BAs go through a phase where they need to try every rare beer they can get their hands on and will go to [almost] any length to get them. I know I did. And some of those beers are still my favorites. After a while, though, you realize that going to such lengths is totally unnecessary to get great beer. You can get high quality crafts brews at your local beer store and be totally content. I have even begun seeking out quality session beers as much as quality/rare imperial stouts, etc. As Sean said above: get back to your roots and seek out some great session beers. There is something very satisfying about relaxing on your couch and enjoying several well-crafted, easy to drink brews. Cheers!

As mentioned wale hunting is not Beer Advocacy. Bring that Blabaer you mentioned and surprise some close friends with it one night, and then just drink some solid locals the rest of the night.

I was in the same position, but when i did the math and saw my cellar had increased in value by 17% YTD, i was back and fired up.

Screw the tickers, screw the whales,
Pour what you like cause that's the best,
Screw the hype that boosts the sales,
Enjoy what you're drinking and fuck the rest.
