So this may not be the best place to post this, but I'm sure someone can help me out. So... I'm looking for a cool place to go camping in August. Me and a couple buddies are going to have a bottle share while roughing it up a bit. Anybody have a good suggestion for a decent campsite near the bay area. At most an hour and a half away from San José.

Don't most places not allow bottles because they want to avoid broken glass?

What are you looking for specifically in a campsite?

Eh. I'm fine with bending most rules, but not getting broken glass that can be impossible to entirely clean up all over a campsite is one that I stick pretty close to; especially considering that the more you drink, the higher the chance of you making a mistake and breaking something.

The no glass rule really only applies for primitive camping and backpacking. Most regular car camping spots have a recycle bin for glass these days so it's really not an issue.

That's fair then. I think I'm a bit more sensitive about it because I go camping by a river every year, and broken glass would reeeally destroy that place.

Make sure you bring a 750ml of Chimay Red. It's a long tradition of being my friends' Official Breakfast Beer of Camping and gaining popularity in new groups as well. Sets a nice tone for the day ahead and takes the edge off the effects of the campfire the night before!

Totally gotta go with a breakfast beer. I was thinking something more sessionable like bitter american tho. I'm pretty sure we're gonna stay close to a campsite. So, cleaning up after ourselves should be no problem. Really we're looking for a place that's easy (that's what he said) and somewhat private.

"Easy" and "private" generally do not go hand in hand when camping, for the most part.

If you're looking to go on a Friday or Saturday, most of the best/better/solid spots are all booked up

For something close to SJ and likely available on a weekend, you could try Henry Coe SP.

Henry Coe in August is like camping on the sun. A lot of the good Coastal spots might be taken already but you can look at some of those. If you don't mind walk in sites, Andrew Molera down near Big Sur is pretty sweet. We camped at Mt. Madonna (Santa Clara County Park between Gilroy and Watsonville) last year and it's kinda under the radar and nice. You probably won't find something truly "private" though unless you head to the Sierras.

We're planning on going during the week. Something like Wednesday and Thursday.

That opens up a lot more possibilities then. A LOT more.

Then you have far more options.

Go to reserveamerica.com and take a look. New Brighton SB, Manresa SB and Sunset SB are good options near SJ. Also Half Moon Bay SB. Many others as well if you're not talking about a weekend trip.

Also, New Brighton SB is within walking distance of Sante Adairius, which is quite nice.

Hey campers, red solo cups ok'd by smoky the bear but remember to keep them pinkies out.:sunglasses:

Hey brewers, where are the cans? Mobile can-van dreams while staring at the stars and fireworks.....?

Speakon cans, careful with them sculpin cans as early March seems to be the best S0-Cal can get when it comes to fresh canned IPA's.:slight_frown:

Plus it doesn't have to be too private. Just want to enjoy good company and good beers without too much of a hassle.

Make sure you have reservations: reserveamerica.com

Ideas: Stay coastal or head into redwoods, otherwise you'll likely bake.
Kirby Cove or Angel Island (probably booked, but go for it)
    Point Reyes Nat'l Seashore
    Sonoma Coast State Beach

If you are willing to drive a few hours north you can find plenty of places that are easy and private. And you can get to higher elevations where it won't be 100 degrees.
