This is random but dawned on me as Utopias was just released and seems like a fresh thread for this forum. Would a beer as this gain anything from being used in a decanter? Or wrecked in the pouring back and fourth. How about low carbonation sours? Just something that crossed my mind.

Decant it into a glass and drink it. Oxidation is not a beers friend.

I've found that some aged beers - 2-3 year old Parabola comes to mind - benefit greatly from being allowed to breathe prior to consumption. I've yet to experiment with actually decanting it, but when I've popped an older bottle, poured some off, recapped, and opened later, the second pour has been far better than the first. I have no reason to believe that decanting it prior to consumption wouldn't be beneficial to it as well, although as you point out, carbonation loss is a concern.

I don't really have experience with low-carb sours, but plenty of people keep Utopias around for months or even years after opening, without reporting oxidation issues (so they say - the folks at ChurchKey in DC have an entirely different opinion), so I'm sure decanting it wouldn't hurt it. Although again, I'd only decant what I was going to drink - encouraging more oxidation over repeated decantings doesn't sound like a very good idea.

IN a case of Utopias, it's been aged so long, and in so many variety of barrels and so forth, it already has some oxidized notes - not a bad thing, in this case. I personally wouldn't want it in a decanter - I wouldn't want to risk any light damage, among other things. It's certainly not something to drink all at once, unless you have 20 friends over and split it.
you can recap it and leave it - and IMO, the bottle is cool enough that having it on the home bar is a big upgrade than any other once.
