IMO the most important part about fasting is accepting the hunger, and remembering that the first few days are always the hardest. I'd guess your stomach shrank because it got used to consuming less calories, but that's just speculation.

"Korsakoff's Lenten Ale" would a great name for a doppelbock :stuck_out_tongue:

I'm an idiot and practice Lent even though I'm not even remotely Catholic. Next year will probably be alcohol. It's something I've wanted to do and probably need to do but I'm too afraid to try it so I've been working me way up to it. Currently in the midst of my first attempt at pescatarianism. It will be quite the challenge =/

I have fasted from beer after many of my trips to England. I was over at the end of February for a nine night trip. I enjoyed 71 pints over that period. I did not have another beer for 6 full nights finally having one during my seventh day of abstaining. I do it mainly because of the indulgence while over there and even my favorite beers taste like crap after a steady diet of real ale.

I would try this, but I would want the beer Id be drinking to be Trappistes Rochefort 10 and Bells Expedition. Both of those are meals in themselves. Youve got me seriously thinking of trying this....

I suppose it could have a different "point" for different people, but for me it's mostly about the experience itself. Without getting all hippie-ish there's something about the denial of physical cravings--in this case hunger--that brings about an interesting perspective. The beer does make the experience more enjoyable for obvious reasons, but it is still about denial, and again, I'm only drinking 3 beers a day to help sustain me.

I've done a beer fast, but usually like the slow to moderate pace under most circumstances.

I only "practice" it now because of my parents. Pescatarianism is fun, I used to be one before I went vegetarian and then vegan. However, after a while I went back to meat to try Paleo and am now just an informed eater. I love seafood and don't eat it as often as I would like. There are so many great fish out there but be wary of what fish you eat at least for the environment's sake.

Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch (Also, try some Asian carp, Kampachi and especially some Barramundi.)

I have noticed that when I start drinking early on a weekend day (<12) I can usually avoid lunch and havw a late dinner. Probably the carbs allow me to do that.

I'm merely a beer nerd with an interest in history, but I try to put two and two together as best I can, based on the information that I can find. I find that it's often useful to compare and contrast information from different countries and sources, and hopefully others might find something of interest in the often Sweden-centric information that I include in my posts, if not at first glance. If looked at in isolation the information might be of little interest, but if you find something to compare it against it might make for some interesting aha-moments, whether it's about discovering similarities, differences or changes across time and geography.

The more beer I drink the more food I eat.

I have done fasts of various degrees and lengths. I don't know that I would be drinking three beers a day during any fast, but I will admit that a beer in the evening during an extended juice fast does enhance the introspective process.

Not trying to get all religious on anyone...but this is a religious post?

I can see Chris at the pearly gets...standing next to God...God bends over and whispers into Chris's ear..."Let me get this right Chris...you gave up food for beer over lent? and that's suppose to impress me?...Beer, really"?

Personally I find it rather funny the things people "give up" for lent...booze. cigarettes, pizza, sex...the list goes on and on and gets rather ridiculous in my mind. No I don't give up anything...so maybe some feel my opinion isn't valid...however I think when you "give up" things that are "wants and/or vices" and not relative to your real survival and personal relationship with the Lord you end up only mocking God?

Next year I'll give up posting anything on BA over lent...

Wow, it's almost unbelievable to me that he was able to play hockey while fasting. Last year I push-mowed my yard about 40 hours in and I was absolutely exhausted and a little light-headed. Can't imagine trying to play a physical sport like hockey.
