That's an awesome picture. I think I like you.

    Not literally.

Gout is related to lifestyle. If you're getting it, it's a sign that you need to change things up; diet, exercise, drink less, etc. The medicines mentioned work for symptoms; they do not solve the problem however.

I think you mean "stout." Gout is not a style of beer. It's simply "ugggghhh...."

I'm in good shape, healthy, good diet, exercise regularly, etc. I believe my problem was I had a knee injury, I was eating organ meat, hereditary reasons, and I was not drinking enough water. That is what I am thinking, and that's what I want to think...

I have not, but it does run in my family (on both sides) so I probably need to be careful :grimacing:

Not enough water could be part of it. I know my friend gets it sometimes when he doesn't drink enough. He has other issues though too. Not trying to sound like an expert or anything either, just trying to help. I'm an RN with a heavy background in nutrition.

I'm pro-actively eliminating vegetables from my diet.

Thank you for the input. I usually drink about 60 fl oz of water per day, but have gotten away from that over the last week or so. My knee was also injured. I'm keeping to my beer drinking habit, but am concentrating on keeping hydrated, and not re-injuring my knee. I am also going to stay away from organ meats for now.

Hope it works out! I know if I drink a large glass of water before bed when I drink, it helps prevent hangovers too. Looked into low purine beers. Some articles say that lagers might have lower levels? Japan has low purine beers called Happoshu. Whether its worth drinking is another question though. Good luck all!

i have never been more pissed off at life then when I was on indomethacin. Trees smelled shitty, my dog was annoying, and I wanted to crawl into a hole and die. I've had gout to where it was so bad I passed out to the floor. In my case and I know everyone is different I have attributed it to seafood. I drink more beer then I did when I had my major bouts and have not had a major one in a couple of years. It is a mystery to doctors as to how a person gets it. First time I thought my toe was broken and doctor said it was gout. He asked if I drank beer, ate red meat, ate seafood, drank energy drinks and I had to say yes to all. Bottom line is no one knows what causes it. It is a horrible, evil ,needle to my toe and it has not shown its evil head in a while. F U gout and the horse you rode in on.

    +1 for "got the gout."

I have found that dehydration plays a big role in it. Lots of beer or lots of soda will set me off. Every last time I had a flare-up, I looked back and found that i had been both drinking a lot of beer and soda. That being said, I haven't had a flare-up in years.

Yeah, I think I'm going to cut out chicken liver. I will miss it, but I am going to cut it out for now. I have have a bite or two in the future, after I clean up my diet.
