While I was visiting Paris during Beer Week, a friend of mine introduced me to beer and Picon at a pub, which was Picon orange better liqueur with a lager, I believe it was Kronenbourg. When he was telling me about it, I thought it sounded shandy'ish but with the kick from the liqueur (18% IIRC) but when I tried it, it was surprisingly tasty! The orange bitters were present just enough not to make it overwhelming. Just wondering if others had a chance to try that and your thoughts? Cheers! Edit: Here's an image/ad
I wish I could get Picon in New Mexico. Been trying to get some to make a Picon Punch in honor of my dad's wife's Basque heritage. I'd definitely do Picon and a lager too, sounds awesome.
My mother-in-law used to order this sometimes in bars in France when she lived there. I tried hers once when we went for a visit and thought it was drinkable and I am not one for fruit in beers. I stuck with mostly beer, wine and Pastis in the bars.
My friend used to bring this back from his trips to Spain...Orange Liquer is not uncommon, but also pretty good...I liked it...
Possibly! I think I had it in a brasserie in Paris ten years ago. I've been wondering what they put in the beer ever since...It certainly sounds like it. I really enjoyed it.
Last time I was in France I brought some Calvados back with me. I need to get my hands on more of that. Apple Brandy from Normandy.
Yes, I love Picon! - great hot summer day drink! I was introduced to this when visiting my sister in law and family who were living in Strasbourg, France at the time. Brought back a couple of bottles with me and usually get one from them about each year. Best enjoyed with a cheap lager like Fischer or Kronenbourg if you can find them - both brewed in Alsace. After we left, we spent several days in Paris. I was not able to find it anywhere there, but that was over 15 years ago now.
