    It really is all about moderation and 90% eating right / 10% working out. As @rollom said Calories in / Calories out is true, but they are right you can't have 2000 Burger King Calories and think you will feel fine compared to 2000 good calories.

    when I know I am going to have some beers, whether it be 1 or whatever, I either throw in an extra cardio or make even better choices eating.

    Its a long road, but balance is truly key, who wants to be skinny and not be able to drink great beer!

    I'm sorry. I should be saying congratulations. Good for you. What works for you, works for you and I'm very glad you have found it. I was just pointing out that what works for you might not work for others.

    really don't mean to be a dick.

    cheers bro. and keep up the good work

    There is a reason I could guess you are young. I'm not trying to be a jerk. Your metabolism is less forgiving as you get older and I thought the same way as you do when I was 25

    Definitive answer to OP:

    To lose weight drink less. The less you drink the more you'll lose. PERIOD.

    Just eat kale and drink your beer like normal.

    Or get married, have kids, and drink your beer. No chicks look at you anyways.

    I actually eat pretty well. I'm vegan, eat plenty of fruits/veggies/nuts/grains all that. Though I do partake in my fair share of junk foods. I guess I was just lying to myself when I kept saying it wasn't the beer making me gain extra weight. Sadly, I must cut wayyy back. Maybe just 1 beer a week.

    22oz bomber of most Pale Ales or IPAs will have 350-400 calories. More if its a DIPA, 16oz can of Surly Abrasive is 350 calories, about the same for a can of Heady.

    12oz bottle of various stouts will be about the same (BCBS, Founders Imperial Stout, etc...)

    Drink a bomber of a big, heavy imperial stout such as Dark Lord and you are looking at close to 1000 calories.

    Basing that info off the MyFitnessPal database so who knows how accurate it is. It lists a bomber of Stone Enjoy By to be almost 600 calories?

    Years ago, when Torpedo first came out, no one here was buying it and it went on sale for 1.75 for a 22.oz. I lost nearly 30 lbs one month buy simply replacing dinner with about 3 of those a night. Which is probably more of a commentary on how terrible my diet actually is.

    It's insane when you think about a beer being almost the amount of calories of a meal, while giving you little-to-none nutrients, just empty calories. Luckily i'm not a heavy stout drinker, or I'd be in serious trouble.

    Here has been my system for the past year...

    150 minutes of cardio exercise a week. Usually the high intensity interval training
    Eat many more fruits and vegetables, drink more water, scale back portion sizes every meal
    Quit snacking after 7pm, and have incorporated much of the Mediterranean diet
    And have enjoyed drinking beer this entire "trip"
    Cholesterol went from 240 down to 163
    Lost 13 pounds of fat
    I probably drink more beer than I did before. Hard work/discipline pays off. No need to give up your beer.

    I'm on the 88th day of a 1300 calorie/day diet and like you I've had a lot success. I don't actively limit my beer intake (I only count food in my 1300) and I've lost 27 lbs since I started the day after the superbowl. I'm not afraid to admit that if it comes down to a choice between high calorie food and good beer, I choose the beer!

    Here is a typical day for my weight-loss, that includes a beer. Again, I am 6' 4" and wanted to lose 3 pounds a week. (I had no interest in not fueling my body correctly)

    Breakfast = Chobani yogurt (the 100 calorie ones, with the huge protein and 5 grams of fiber) with a tablespoon of ground flaxseed and fiber powder. 200 calories total

    Snack = Small banana = 100 calories

    Lunch = Chicken breast and bag of veggies = 450

    Snack = Cliff bar = 250

    Exercise = Gym/Basketball = 700 (low end...all of my estimates are high for calories in, and low for calories out)

    Dinner = Protein, veggies, carbs, etc. = 700

    Beer = 300

    Total calories (minus exercise) = 1300 (again, I need 3500 to maintain my old weight and I never experienced any health issues, headaches, etc. doing this for 10 weeks, plus cheat days)

    I want to point out that the lunch is high (I had about 300 calories worth of soup a lot of days), the dinner is relatively high and that a 300 calorie beer is about a 7% 12oz beer. I think I can maintain my weight loss and still enjoy 7 beers a week.

    Many good posts here re: beer and diet, but lots more are going "off-topic"/non-beer(as has happened in the past when similar topics have been posted) on other nutrition/caloric intake/exercise/metabolism/medical advice, etc. I hope the OP has enough feedback from what's been posted; a couple calls already to close this (posted and via reports), so locking this one...
    Thanks for all the replies.
    Cheers,
    Brian
