More proof you need to grow sloooowly. I never heard of them and all of a sudden their bombers were all over Charlotte. Looks they jumped right into bed with the distributor and it didn't work.

Hate to see this happen to anyone but especially a vet. Lets be honest, selling mediocre beer in a lower population area just isn't a successful business plan. Then to try and distribute your beer to the public in a highly competitive market really appears to be an oncoming disaster.

It sucks that they're going under. I have a lot of respect for what those guys were doing down there. That said, I didn't buy very many of their beers twice.

Good point. Sad day for sure. I did see their beers as far north as MD, so I'm not surprised they had their hands tied by the distributor.

I am sorry for these guys. I wish it could have worked. Two things bothered me from the outset; their name and their packaging. Both were really hard to warm up to. I tried a few of the beers and none were bad, but none better than OK. It's a shame, but business is business and maybe a nice rebound will occur.

The bubble ppl keep talking about. Make a good base beer, base consumer, grow. Best example I've seen in a while (since wicked weed) is creature comforts. No need to go full scale production first. Neither of those did that and look at them now

Lazy reporters will talk about the bubble bursting every time this happens, when in reality well run breweries are expanding as fast as ever.

Am I the only one that has never heard of this brewery?

They're destruction was a direct product of going into distro with bombers. Got to six or four packs! More people will try and enjoy a small bottle rather than a large one.

I see your point, but I think bombers make more sense financially. At least here in the Triangle several breweries started off packaging that way (Fullsteam, Gizmo, RBC, Crank Arm, etc.). Not saying it works all the time, but to @lateralusbeer's point, well run breweries are expanding as fast as ever. Unfortunately, a bad decision or two cost Beer Army their livelihood.

On the flipside, it is a shame that if the brewery truly feels it made the wrong distributor choice, and had no recourse to regain it's path to market once it realized it was poorly represented.

That's really too bad. Zero Dark Thirty is an excellent Black IPA and the Angels blonde is a solid Belgian-style ale. A shame to see a brewery that actually has some talent go under while other lackluster establishments thrive.

But I gotta point out: What's with the first sentence of the article? "Distilling" craft beer?

Rumor has it that their tanks got repo'd last month. They can blame the distributor all they want, but their beer wasn't good.
We'll probably start seeing this sort of thing more often in the future.

So true, though I can understand the appeal of how inexpensive that real estate must have been. I have a friend who wants to start up a microbrewery in the next few years here in MA and location is the biggest issue.

It is too bad for the owners, investors, employees and their families. They must be gutted. I feel for them and hope they're all OK. That said, the story of a new brewery going out of business is so rare that it's making a splash across the state, at least in the "beer-o-sphere". So many breweries are opening in NC and very few are going under. I've been on BA for 10 years now. This market is something to behold and remember.

I heard the same thing from a distributor. That means not paying the bills, which means they arent selling enough beer. Whatever reason you apply here, that is the end result.

Oh I know that, but I do enjoy seeing 12 oz bottles of something. So many of my customers want six packs, not bombers.
