Beer Barrel Time is retired now? I think this is the 3rd consecutive year its been brewed/released, right?

This beer is listed in vintages, because it spends different times in different barrels every year. So whenever a new vintage comes out, the previous one is retired.

This shows an interesting weakness of the search function though, because if you search for "Beer:Barrel:Time" only the original entry will be found, not the vintages. Or rather, the vintage entries will be buried tens of pages deep in the search results.

If you add a "side" to that search (because you are aware that it is from Side Project), you get all of the vintages/variants returned in the search results with nothing else. I use the technique of including at least a portion of the brewery name when I know it to make the search results more relevant.

Every year of BBT is listed as mentioned, but the listing that was on the top250 list for a long while was a 4th listing with no associated date (year)/batch number...just slightly inconsistent I guess for someone trying to finish the top250 list

It just doesn't make any sense to have 4 different vintages of the same beer all active at the same time. Another approach would be to merge them all together, the vintage entries all only have very few ratings compared to the original one anyway. However, it could be argued that vintages are justified because the beer is aged in different barrels for different amounts of time every year, hence the name.

This really demonstrates quite well how a weak search function, or lazy users, depending on your viewpoint, can cause problems. BBT has 189 ratings, dated from 2017 to 2019, while the vintage entries only have 2-5 ratings. So it's clear that most people have been rating the wrong beer all along because the vintage entries did not show up in search results.

Part of this is not any user error but because of a change in the way the beer was classified. Originally it was listed as just one entry, and then switched to 3 entries for each of the 3 years it's been released (2017 to 2019). The original one entry only beer had the large amount of entries. When BA switched to vintage listings in early November, they put all of them in 2017, my guess is that the link for this beer is the same as the single listing. Also, there's probably no way for them to automatically determine which review is which year. So the 2018/2019 vintages only have entries since November 10th.

My opinion is that these should have been kept at one entry. Yes, they are a blend of beers in different barrels each year, but it's always a bourbon barrel aged imperial stout. Goose Island hasn't used the exact same bourbon barrels of beer for every vintage of BCBS, but those are one entry. When the type of spirit is switched, maybe that's reason enough to list a vintage, but I think in this case IMO it should be one listing. Leave the listing of every damn iteration of a beer to untappd.

Or hopefully, better yet, someday BA makes it so the beer itself is one entry for the purpose of lists, and multiple vintages are subsets of that entry. I assume this would get pretty complicated code-wise, but have no idea really.

With so many beers now being "ageable"
A way to leave reviews for different vintages with in the main listing is to ad a searchable "vintage year" drop down menu clicked at time of review.
That way you could get/search the most recent review for that vintage year.
