I don't go to Detroit often but we are spending our anniversary there this weekend. Any suggestions on bars with a good craft selection.....kicker though....has to have good food too and be close to downtown. We are staying at the MGM.
I don't know that I would go to Hopcat for my anniversary (no, I do know, I wouldn't), but it is a good beer bar. Do crack fries qualify as good food? Actually, the food isn't bad. It's been years since I was in Tap at MGM, but it had some ok beer 5 years ago. Maybe someone has more recent experience.
Well, I'm from Grand Rapids so we have a HopCat here that I can frequent so I'd probably look for a different place.
Grand Trunk Pub Wright and Co. Slow's BBQ Batch Brewing Mudgie's The last three are in Corktown, but Corktown is pretty close to MGM.
I've not been there but I've heard Roast is great. Their selection is supposed to be good and I'm told their happy hour is the bomb. Also check out The Skip. It's in the Belt. Although not a huge beer selection what they have is interesting and they have great cocktails and it's a very unique spot. They don't have food but I think the folks that own it have a restaurant in the Belt too. Don't know the name. Sorry.
Roast, we went there for an anniversary, stayed at the Book Cadillac. It was all a splurge, but worth it.
