Hey guys, California BA here. Gonna be in town for PAX for the next few days, any suggestions on local spots to hit? I'm staying on the river walk very close to the convention center. Or local brews to try? Not too familiar with Texas brews to be honest (outside of JK). Appreciate the help!

    Cheers!

Downtown River walk area is a dead zone for good craft bar . U will have to travel a short distant
Around the downtown are ... north of downtown u have a good range of beer place
The pearl has a good brewpub also in that area there big hops the bridge and gs1221 also the luxury . South of downtown there is freetail brewery and also in southtown best places to go is the filling station and stella public house ... imo avoid frendly spot to over price

However if you're downtown. It is possible to walk to friendly spot, despite their prices. Just ask before you purchase. It's by far your best beer selection close to DT. It's also only out door sitting.

The Cove is also a cool spot to check out.

Uber to Big Hops, Freetail or Alamo brewery...can't be more than a few dollars.

Esquire Tavern is your best bet downtown on the Riverwalk. 8-10 local taps. Good food. Great cocktails.

Definitely ask prices first at Friendly Spot. Big Hops Bridge has their tap list online. GS1221 is a cool spot close to Big Hops. Filling Station is IPA heavy and uses plastic cups. Freetail's Taproom just south of downtown is definitely worthy of a visit but only open Thurs/Fri/Sat

2nd the Esquire. Very tasty cocktails and menu. Their craft beer selection is worthy. The only place to not miss in SA, imho.

I like The Friendly Spot, just ask how much a beer is before you buy it, some of their prices are steep. As far as beer goes, Burbon Barrell Hellfighter might be on tap somewhere???

If you venture out towards Friendly Spot, check out Stella Public House as well. Great food and a solid beer selection.

Second the Stella Public House and Filling Station recs. Filling Station DOES use plastic cups for serving, but they also fill growlers... including sometimes Yellow Rose. Don't have a growler? Filling Station has these cheap plastic ones that actually are quite handy for travel in that they are light and pretty unbreakable.

I see no one has mentioned Blue Star yet-just south of downtown.

Grab yourself one of them Park n Ride bikes and cruise up and down Alamo St. You can hit all the great beer spots. And WHEN you do go to Stella Public house, get the wild mushroom Mac n Cheese.

Thanks for all the info guys! I did hit Stella public house and sampled some local brews. And that Mushroom Mac and cheese was on point. Cheers!
