BA's being mocked! I have to say when I saw this, I was slightly ashamed, as there is just a bit too much truth in it. They do a great job with funny lines though.

Loved this. I'm not ashamed, I don't try to change people's tastes either. I have, however, experienced lately the reverse of the situation in the video where people have become agitated with me keeping to myself and actually enjoying different craft beers and not BMC beers.

I thought it was funny. Fiancee thought it mocked the objectification of women and reinforced sophomoric, chauvinist male behavior regarding "ranking culture." We had a spat over the definition of satire. Now she's pissed, and I'm downstairs drinking an out-of-date IPA. Thanks, Beer Advocate.

Very funny. I also agree about the video having some truth in it.

Hm, interesting. You would think coming away from the video one would presume it did not take a stance on the objectification of women but instead used it as a starting point to lampoon something which occurs in a completely different realm. If anything it mocks beer aficionados, comparing them to men who objectify women while at the same time taking the stance that yes not all beers are created equal. Perhaps she gathered that because it was saying the objectification of certain beers as more desirable as others as generally true, it may also, whether knowingly or not, be saying the objectification of certain women as sexually more desirable than others equates to absolute value of them as people and thus conclude it provides ammo for our supposed **** culture.

Not quite sure. I may have to continue sipping my Union Jack IPA and ponder this a bit more...

Thinking a tad bit more I see you mention her critique of the videos affirmation towards "ranking culture", linking this in with male chauvinist behavior. Now this leads me to question whether the characteristic, present or not, of male chauvinists to participate in "ranking culture" is the defining characteristic of them and, indeed, what makes them so abhorrent. Ranking and competition seem to be related, no doubt, so is a culture of creating a hierarchy regarding "things" an inherently chauvinist act? Accepting all this I can more and more see where your fiance is coming from in her discernment of the video. Then again it is from College Humor so I'm not sure they are doing anything that can't be expected of them. But, again, knowing this does not discount her argument against the video but instead supports it.

Cracking open a new bottle of Knee-Deep Simtra and will consider this some more...

Yeah, I did think some of the jokes were sexist, but I think that was intentionally all part of the satire.

I like my beers to come with a sixpack. I like them buffed and clear, and I like some of them tall but not too strong. There now I can objectify you back. IS that beer in the right glass?

Whoever wrote the script at least knew something about craft. Too often comedy falls apart when they don't take the time to understand what they are lampooning.
