The "corrections and comments" Wiki to the Oxford Companion to Beer now has corrections to more than 200 of the 1,100 entries - http://ocbeercommentary.wikispaces.com/

That said, large parts of the OCB, like the curate's egg, are very good. But if you're thinking of buying it, do have a look at the Wiki first, and make your mind up after that.

I've read a bunch (currently reading Mitch Steele's IPA book) but the ones I keep returning to are Mosher's Tasting Beer and Oliver's Brewmaster's table.

I've also heard good things about this book, and it is on my list of books to read.

I know it's been mentioned, but Tasting Beer by Randy Mosher is an excellent book.

I've just started Mitch Steele's new IPA book. So far so good.

Hey, I'm sure there have been plenty of threads on this topic, but I'm new here and too lazy to look. I'm not new to beer drinking, but only recently have I really started tracking what beer I drink, and what I like (and don't like). Part of that obviously requires learning more about beer and its ingredients, so I'm looking for some good books (or beer writers) to use as a supplemental reference to my drinking.

So, what are some classic texts? It would be nice to have a book or two that serve as solid primers on all the styles and types of beer, but it'd also be cool to read some books on beer travel, production, etc. -- I like it all.

Sorry about my surely repetitive thread topic here! I appreciate all the help I can get.

Why would one need a book, a story is all you need for beer.

I enjoyed and still reference Joshua Bernstein's "The Complete Beer Course". Covers all the styles and has great photos as well as stories of breweries and brewmasters. Best $15 I ever spent on Amazon.
    Cheers!

excuse me sir. That is my standard response to these threads. In fact I have a picture in my photobucket [IMG] ready to go. Next time check with me before recommending Mosher. (only kidding)

I am currently reading the Audacity of Hops which is a good read.

That's admirable of you to admit that you're "too lazy to look" but this topic is covered often enough that it won't be a difficult task. It's really a proper thing to do before posting a new thread if you don't want to have your head bitten off in these forums.

With that said, I like the three beer books by Pete Brown. They are published in England so they will take some effort to find.

Yes. All of my beer reviews. The pinnacle of beer literature and expertise.

    Kidding. They are all nonsense.

But in all seriousness, anything by Michael Jackson. The King of HOP. Did I just come up with that nickname? Probably not.

If you are (or ever do) get into sours. Wild Brews by Jeff Sparrow is a must read.

There's also a ton of really good stuff in the digital world. Right now one of my favorite blogs is Tempest in a Tankard which is right now featuring a multi-part rumination on terroir/"drinking locally." It's really thoughtful writing, and his beer reviews are spot on: try anything he recommends, and you'll not only learn a lot, but discover awesome beer.
