So I am moving into my own place and have accumulated many bottles over the past 2 years. It got quite out of hand so I did the ole soak bottle in oxi-clean trick to get the labels. Now of course Stone brewing's bottles are painted/etched w/e on the bottle, which is awesome, but Stone is also my favorite brewery. So this picture is a bookshelf in my new living room. Now I personally like it, but am feeling like it might be a little much to have right there in the living room, it's a small condo and just me living there, but my sister saw it and said no, and I don't really want to come across as an alcoholic to any womenfolk that might come through... The top also has about 3 bottles on each side so the entire top looks covered, all Stone bombers. The 2nd shelf down is Enjoy By batches in order and in between them are any stone 12oz bottles I have that aren't bombers, the empty space for 1 12oz bottle is for Levitation, which I need to get asap cause it's being discontinued. The 2nd shelf is also all Stone glassware, the 3rd shelf down is the rest of my glassware collection. I really don't want it to look like a shrine to Stone, I can move the bottles/glassware to maybe some wood shelving I can get and put it above my little makeshift bar area in my kitchen, and have a few nicer ones on the living room shelf....let me know your thoughts. Remember not all people are beer lovers like us.
I look at this and see nothing more than wasted space in the form of books. Replace those with a Greg Koch bobblehead and you're all set brother.
It looks cool but young. If you're under 30 then ok. North of that then I say take it down. Your sister probably represents the viewpoint of other young women so you should value her opinion highly if you're trying to make time with the ladies at your place.
I'm 28 and have owned my own home for almost 6 years. My girlfriend has lived in the home for almost 3 years and helped me drink half the bottles that are in this display in our kitchen. I'd say you should probably find someone who enjoys the things that you enjoy in life. You'll get to drink more beer that way. The people who disagree should loosen their ties and have a beer.
You can overdo it unless the display is in a man cave in the basement. Here is what 1,200 or so bottles can do to your walls.
DaltonC, if people don't think your bottle collection is cool now, well, this one had to start small, too, I bet! Nice work, Mothergoose!
I already collect enough beer shtuff (shit/stuff) that I have to keep my bottles to a minimum, but if I was to ever focus on collecting bottles, I think it would be cool to only collect ones with painted labels. Stone would probably make up about 95% of them, I'm sure. The missis found a cool chandelier online that holds bottles we're going to get and fill it with painted-label bottles. Nice, but if you haven't already, get some earthquake wax or a wire or something! I was going to, "one of these days", and along came a big shaker and broke half of them. Just like my dad warned me!
I'm in Michigan where we have essentially no earthquake concerns (knock on wood), but I designed my shelves to protect against drunks or kids from knocking the bottles off the shelves. Each shelf, except the top shelf and a few others that contain miscellaneous bottles which have a non-standard height, are set on the shelf with the bottle's neck inserted a quarter of an inch into a hole that is drilled into the underside of the shelf above. The only broken bottle that I've suffered so far is one that I dropped when placing it on its shelf.
