After 2 storm kings, the other 4 look so damn good. Have a backup cheap beer to drink instead. Yuengling is a great choice, or even Sam Adams.

I look for cheap $5-7 22s to put into the cellar and drink a year later. Stick to one per night, homebrew some and very rarely trade. $60 a month sucks, but it may get worse with a little one on the way!

Marry a woman with an amazing memory. Get said wife pregnant. Have wife remind you that while highly intoxicated you told her you would quit drinking during pregnancy since she couldnt drink.
That sequence of events cut my drinking to zero for the next 8 months. My IPA buying is gone, but I will still ocassionally buy and trade for stouts that can withstand some aging. The $100+ trips to the bottle shops are done though.

    I FEEL YOUR HURT.
Just get a beer nerd girlfriend (or in my case, a boyfriend) that is equally or even more so nerdy and that also has more disposable income than you and drink all of their beer. It has worked successfully thus far

You mention your boyfriend in pretty much every post you make.

That's a warning to all the beer nerds on the site, she already has a boyfriend who keeps her craft beer addiction funded. Or, if you really like all the beer you currently have collected, don't hit on her because she will drink it all.

Have other likes than just beer. Eating at good restaurants is a start. Cooking is even better. Why not pick up a guitar? You'll find beer isn't the end all eventually.

Just be glad she isn't into sours... mine is, but she's also too cheap to pay for them herself, and how can I resist those puppy eyes when I myself open a bottle? :stuck_out_tongue:

There are plenty of mix packs that offer good variety..Sam, Troegs, Victory, etc. When things get tight that's what I do.

If you need to budget yourself, and really love beer, then cut back in other areas. No matter how much you are spending on beer, it's still probably a relatively small piece of the pie so treat yourself to what you like and watch your spending elsewhere.

You assume I don't have other likes. I do play guitar. I like to camp and hike. I have a full time job. I go to church. I have a wife I love very much. And friends I like to hang out with. Beer is definitely not the end all. but budgeting for anything is no fun. If I didn't have to budget for lunch meat I wouldn't, but alas, my revenue stream does not lend itself to an infinite supply of honey baked ham.

All things considered, this should be a pretty easy 'feat' to overcome. You can't buy beer if you don't go to places that sell it, so commit to only going to a store once a week. When you go, put $X in cash in your pocket and promise yourself not to go over that amount (and hence need to use a card); leave your wallet in the car if you have to.

Maybe that is less then you were spending.

When you find the best answer, let me know. I'm as wreckless as hell when it comes to acquiring bottles and I need to put a lid on spending.

My wife and I are out of work, so the answer is simple. Don't spend what you don't have.

I get $11.99 twelve packs of Torpedo, and also beers I might not have relied on in the past such as SA and Harpoon. This is about as little you can spend on craft beer without home brewing, and it's a lot better than drinking Bud..

I've stuck to my work week discipline of not drinking M-Th. All in all it works out well. At my age, excuses to drink less are not a bad thing.

I think pretty much all of the practices listed are helpful.

    Staying away from bars
    staying away from beer stores
    only bringing cash
limiting consumption in some way or another (only drinking with friends, only on weekends. 2 beers a week max, etc.)
    buying cases instead of singles

Keep em coming. This feels like a "not enough money for beer" support group

Happy hours. I don't know about near you, but there are places around here with 1/2 off craft happy hours, which can end up cheaper than a mixed-6 and is also more enjoyable. Do that once a week to get rid of the trying new things bug for cheap(er).
